Morning.

I'm not in a good place at all just now. I'm in receipt of £210 pw State Pension/Pension Credit along with £109 pm lifetime annuity.

Without an exhaustive SOA, my major debts are as follows:

Mortgage ... £17,000
Halifax CC ... £3000
Barclays CC ... £3000
Debenhams ... £300
Halifax OD ... £1000

Outgoings (pm)

Council Tax nil (I'm exempt)
Water: ... £12
TV Licence ... £12
Electricity/gas dual fuel econ 7 for electricity (Eon) £81
BT Landline/Internet ... £42
Sky (I know) £28
Mobile phone O2 (locked in contract till Sept 2016) £50
Misc insurances: £40
Food £80 (I buy and freeze)
Choir sessions £16
Halifax CC £55
Barclays CC £100
Debenhams £37

This is very rough. My main problems are interest accruing etc, and I've just for first time had some DDs refused.

I've been liasing with my bank (Halifax) and am going in again today. I have to say they've been helpful, but I'm feeling like ending it, as I have no one to turn to and my family is indifferent. The only time I hear from them is if they want something. My daughter hasn't called in weeks.

Sorry for the long post but I needed to unload. I'm so ashamed and sad.

You need to post a full SOA sile001. Nothing there to be ashamed of, and certainly nothing that can't be managed ;) But if you are feeling suicidal (I'm sensing more to this than money worries?), contact your GP for an emergency appointment or call the Samaritans for immediate support.

    Hi Sile001

I don't have much advice for you at the moment but I didn't want to read and not acknowledge the situation you are in.

I know it's daft to say it's only money, but it really isn't worth taking your life over.,

Are you in arrears with any of your payments at the moment?

Have you tried Citizens Advice to see what options are open to you?

(and dont give up the choir, it is worth it's weight in gold!)

    Lots of hugs

    Helen

Thanks, I know but am getting ready to go out to face the people at the bank. I needed to unload. I am scared. I've not felt this way since my hubby died.

  • sile001, please don't do anything silly.
Money troubles are nothing to be ashamed of and certainly not worth feeling suicidal over.
Firstly, call your GP, get an emergency appointment, insist you speak to a doctor today, do not let the rottweilers on the reception fob you off with saying there are no appointments. Go and speak to them. They can help and they won't judge.

Secondly. Do a full SOA, and we can all see if we can help trim some corners off it.
Someone will be along with a link real soon, I'm sure.

It might be worth calling 02 and explaining you're having money troubles and rather than fall behind with your payments, perhaps they could lower them to something you can afford. It's worth an ask. You might get a few quid shaved off there.

But seriously, nothing is worth ending your life over...even if it's family trouble as well as money problems...everything CAN be sorted out.
    Big hugs.xx

  • Just another thought, places like stepchange or Christians againt poverty can help with payment plans if you have arrears etc, and will help you sort payments out. They don't charge, and are REALLY helpful.:)

  • Hi Shelia,

Not much to add to what others have already posted but just to let you know there there is not a debt/money problem that cannot be solved. You can do this and please don't value this above your life. I hope the bank are helpful but I would also echo the others and suggest you speak to your GP and also Stepchange/Samaritans today once you are back from the bank.

Let us know how you get on, everyone on this board is helpful and sympathetic and will help you get back on your feet x

    Please do not do anything.

I had money worries really big ones and in my darkest days I genuinely thought that the only way to save the roof over my families head was to smash myself against the nearest wall. But and I know it is easy for us to say it is only money. I thank god I was too chicken to do anything as there really is no amount of money that is worth taking for life for.

I understand that being on your own and having this extra load on top can be very difficult but there are lots of practical things you can do. You do not sound like a quitter and you managed to have the strength to post this post so instead you need to get help.

Absolutely go to the bank and then 100% straight to the doctors. Are there any groups in your area. I can guarantee that you are not the only person in this situation and really hope that just as you found the grit and determination to ask for help here you can stick with it and get the help you need. As some of the other posts have said I don't think that the money worry however big is the only issue and I think that you need help to start to get yourself back on track.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A
  • Sile,

I don't post very often, but just wanted to say, your life is worth infinitely more than your money troubles. I've been going through some hard times lately, and when I'm struggling, I try to take big deep breaths (literally) and tell myself this too shall pass.

Then, when it gets too much, I reach out for help. I can't encourage you enough to do that today, as soon as you can.

    Call the Samaritans -116 123 - it's free

You mentioned losing your hubby - maybe you're still grieving from that loss - you could think about calling CRUSE? Grief can be overwhelming but having someone to talk to can help.

Also, get help to sort out your debt! Trying phoning one of the debt charities - Step Change (0800 138 1111)
    - National Debtline (0808 808 4000)

Maybe you could give one a ring before you go into the bank? That's good they're being helpful, but remember they have vested interests.

Anyway, someone more knowledgeable will no doubt be along - but don't be scared, and don't feel ashamed. Life is always worth living, even if you need help to find the good bits. Once you get some help, you can make a plan, feel more in control, and start to enjoy little bits of life again xx

    Absolutely.

As others have said, there is no situation which cannot be sorted one way or another so please dont fear for your future. Yeah, there may have to be some sacrifices but there is always a solution.

    Good luck.
