Dustbin/Meter cupboard door

We live in a Peterborough ex council house and as anyone who lives in this area will know the doors to the dustbin/meter cupboards are bad ours has rotted and needs to be replaced and as a result we have a really cold hallway. We had double glazing fitted when we moved here 2 years ago but the company didn't do 'cupboard' doors.
The door is a standard door size but we are finding it really hard to get a replacement and have been given silly quotes of over £1000! It’s a cupboard door for goodness sakes just used once a month when I read the meters! Help!!

When you say "cupboard door", is that an internal door, or an external one ? A "proper" insulated, double-glazed composite door with high-security locks (like a front door) will be expensive, but for an internal door you can pick up a plain wooden one from B&Q or wherever for not much money. Fitting is not difficult - you buy the size closest to what you need and may just need to plane a few mm off here and there. Here's an example - like I say, you can pick them up from any DIY shed or builders merchant :

I have a feeling it is probably an exterior door to an exterior store cupboard, likely next to the front door.

OP, if you want a uPVC type door, there are some you can order on line if you have someone to fit it. Cheaper, but still not that cheap.

Otherwise, why not replace it with a plain wooden door? One door to paint every so often is not too bad. If you fit it with a sill, and seals and draught excluders it will help.
