Christmas jobs

Hi folks, I know it's a long way off but I've noticed ads starting to appear where i live for Christmas temps in the big stores like Boots....just thought this might remind anyone who needs to earn a bit extra over the festive season to apply early!!:rudolf:

Would never work for me - I'd end up spending more than i earned!!!

    P.S. What's Christmas?!
  • Good thread furrychimp! :money:

I did this in Next a couple of years back but just ended up spending lots of money because of the discount, so I probably wouldn't bother again :rotfl:

    Bah Humbug!!! :rotfl:

Yup clocked some signs in Debenhams, Clinton Cards & HMV shop windows in my neck of the woods!
  • I've just given Next a call to see when theyanyone know w are recruiting for Christmas, and was told they will be starting in sept.

Does anyone know what they pay and when they expect you to work? (also, what staff discount they offer .. not that I would be buying anything of course..)

    Cheers!

I would be like to work in any of the big stores over the christmas period for some extra pennies.
Does anybody know what the chances are of getting school time hrs between 9.30-2.30.
I already work 2-3 evenings a week and every other weekend so i would want to work whilst the kiddies are at school.
Also what is the pay roughly and do you get staff discount at most places or do you have to work for them for a period of time first.
  • I can't remember the wage when I did Next but it was pretty average for retail from what I recall. There was 10% discount card.

I worked one evening and one weekend day from what I remember and picked up overtime over and above that when it suited. I was in the warehouse so I could wear casual clothes to work.

I did BHS christmas temp a couple of years ago. It was great fun but the hardest work I have ever done. Pay was minimum wage but staff discount of 20% plus if the had a 20% day you got that as well so 40% off on a couple of occasions! Mind you never made any money cos I spent it all on stuff for the home kids myself etc lol
  • argos are starting to take on xmas temps ~ if you are just after an xmas job write it on the aplication form.
  • I worked in Toys r Us *many* christmases ago. I remember how busy it was, and how they played christmas carols over and over again. Still, it was a handy job at the time as it allowed me to come to Ireland to visit my b/f (now my hubby).
