Eon Energy- price rise

Hi everyone
Is it normal for an energy company to increase your fixed rate halfway through the term.
I was on £50 a month, and they increased it to £73, 6 months in on a fixed rate i yearv15.
Just wondering if anyone has had similar.
I have lived at the property for awhile, and it was calculated from my previous energy company.

    It is your UNIT rates (ie what you pay for gas and electricity, typically 3p per gas kilowatt and 10-14p per electricity plus standing charges) that don't change on a fixed rate deal.

    You are probably referring to your monthy payments what you pay your provider. These can change depending on your usage. So to answer your question: Yes it can be normal.
  • The price fix applies to the standing charges and unit costs. The price fix does not apply do your direct debt.

    Really, Eon have done you a favour by increasing your direct debit if you account is in arrears or don't have enough credit, because if you continued paying £50/month you could fall into debt over the winter period and end up being having a large balance to settle.

    What you should be doing is workng out your annual usage for the energy you use and divide this by 12 (months) to get an accurate direct debit amount. If you aren't in credit, before autumn, it's a good idea to add another £10 on top of your monthly direct debit.

    A fixed rate tariff means that your unit rates will not change for the whole period of that contract, however, the Direct Debit can change as this will need to cover the amount of energy that you're actually using.

    So, even though the unit prices won't change the amount you pay might.

    I am a new Eon customer switched via the CEC and my account on line has been set up and seems to be working, all done without any bother.


    Just a quick question I had a visit from a meter reader on Monday morning , but my account has not yet been updated with the new reading. How long does it take to update the information.

    It may just take a few days, have we got your start reads showing? It may also depend if you're due a bill.

    You can always pop the read on your online account and either request a balance or request a bill.

    They tried this little trick with me last month, proposing to increase the DD from £26 to £38, in the same circumstances as yourself. Nothing in my usage indicated this was necessary and I worked out it would have given them a surplus of over £50 after the March payment. Energy companies are very fond of "helping" you to control your costs by doing this. If your past energy use shows that your balance will be about neutral by the summer with the lower payment, then demand it be maintained at that level.

    Of course, when they do nothing, and huge debt piles up (which is more common on this forum than your scenario), they're berated again!
