Howdens quote - seems a lot?

Hi - and many thanks if you reply to this. I'm trying to buy a kitchen and it's a frustrating business... the quote I'm getting from Howdens seems very high for a Tewkesbury kitchen that doesn't include any appliances, worktop, sink or flooring. It comes to £6,368.51 + VAT (= £7642.21) for this list, even in their 'huge October sale' ha! Any advice much appreciated on how I can get the price down:

It is their most expensive kitchen.

Get a price on the Somerset from Benchmarx and play them off against each other.

Go to an independent retailer who offer various carcass colour options and use stone doors on a stone carcass then you can remove most if not all of the end panels. £100.00 delivery, no chance! £99 for a internal cutlery drawer! the 75% off the units is fine but the cornices plinths panels should be 85% i would suggest howdens are either making about 60% margin on this or they have 1k left in it for the account holder.

Sit on the quote for a bit. They will probably send you through a letter or two offering further reductions over the next couple of months, especially if you make interested noises every now and again.

We got offers of 1000's less by waiting.

Thanks very much for all your advice. I've been offered £900 off already, which makes it more palatable, but still considering DIY Kitchens who priced the whole thing for £5k. Anyone had any experience of them?

There are a lot of threads of the forum about them if you run a search. I don't recall reading a bad word.

DIY Kitchens are much better than most of the sheds. Decent quality units and good doors.

Tell Howdens you are pricing elsewhere and have a better spec kitchen for 5K they will try to beat it. Especially now it's getting toward the end of the month and they are not hitting sales targets.
