Ever made a big mistake buying property?

Don't know the area.
But 4/5 bedrooms with only 1 bathroom...
And bathroom didn't look like have a shower...0 -
It doesn't *look* like a 5 bed house from the outside, unless the photos are very deceptive I am not surprised that the bedrooms are on the tiny side. While it is very cheap (well, cheaper than Scotland, which takes some doing), it looks quite dated.
The bathroom looks tired, the kitchen looks like a room where someone has added a big cooker as an afterthought and the room with the electric fireplace looks a bit sad.
On the positive side, the level of interest shown means that you'll almost definitely get an offer if you're willing to negotiate.
To answer your question re. regretting a property purchase, our current home is the only property that we've ever bought and I've regretted it for years. Your slope surely cannot match our ski slope and we were never willing to commit to 'modernising' it. Sometimes these things work out for the best. The ski slope has been ignored and apparently people don't want modern in our neck of the woods!
Best of luck getting rid.0 -
Could you not perhaps change the 2 bedrooms downstairs into 1 big bedroom with an en suite that means there is a toilet downstairs too. I know that is more money to be spent by doing it but not one of the 5 bedrooms looks to be a decent size unless you just try and aim for students and get 5 students in. Though again would 5 people be tempted to share just 1 bathroom.0

How about advertising as three bedrooms with dining room and family room ? People could then use a downstairs room as a bedroom , should they choose.
The downstairs bedrooms are obviously just add-ons to cram in a large family but a large family could mean more wear and tear for you.0 -
OK - so it screams student let and you did not get it let out before the start of the Autumn term?
That would have made sense; then sell it off next summer if you want.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Very true. I'd rarely consider looking at a property where it was being sold within less than 3+ years unless it was stunning. I assume something is very wrong where properties change hands every couple of years.0 -
I think letting to students is your best market. A family may not be enticed because of the public path(?) running alongside the property. It would be a no-no for me in that sense, though it may be a very standard thing in the area.
RAS hit the nail of the head re timings and lack of interest from that point of view.0 -
i suppose we all have regrets in some ways...... i certainly do!0

I think it is being marketed wrong.
Anyone looking for a 5 bed is not looking at your sort of home.
Market it as a 3 bed with extra living rooms and you may have more success.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
