I'd be more worried about damage that isn't immediately apparent - the hirer damaging suspension or the exhaust on a pothole, or riding the clutch, or whatever, that results in a huge bill in the future but can't be pointed at the hirer - it's unlikely the hire company will insure for it.

    Or fake parking tickets.

Or any kind of legal liability - because you'd need to be paying tax on your £22.50/day income.

check out Zipcar. It's in London and has thousands of cars parked around everywhere for you to use whenever you want. I was a member for a year and had the pleasure of driving Golf and 1 series

At their rate of £6/hour weekdays and £8.50/hour weekends for the cheapest cars, and with a 60 miles/day allowance (25p extra per mile after that), it gets expensive fairly quickly...

And as for the car "borrowing" scheme in the article, no I wouldn't let random people drive my car. I wouldn't want to borrow one either given that I'd have no idea how it's been maintained.

We have all driven hire cars.

We all know how most people drive them.

Fastest cars in the world they are.

I remember renting an Escort back in the 90's

Fresh off the transporter with under 100miles.

By the time I returned it a week later here was a clunk from the front left suspension and the brakes were making wierd noises.

The phrase wheel spin featured heavily in those few days.

Having looked at a few Zipcar vehicles parked up in London and also driving about London I am afraid I would never let anybody drive my vehicle unless I was related to them or knew them for many years.

    Sorry.
