Is it this one? £6 is too much, £4 much more affordable. According to MySupermarket, Morrisons is selling it for £3.75 until 25th Oct 15. Will make an excellent small but thoughtful gift for any bakers in your life :)

Then you'll not be impressed with this suggestion.;)

If you get through a lot of it, much cheaper to buy on Amazon.
Currently £21.99 for a 1 litre bottle, far better than Morrisons' equivalent price of £33.18/litre.
Last year when I got some, it was down to about £15 for a litre.:D

Strange you say that, I'm something of a rice pudding expert but dislike "warm" flavours in it, such as vanilla and cinnamon.

I tend to flavour with rose water, crushed cardamoms, and thinly sliced pistachios and almonds. The results went up a notch when I started using arborio rice (sourced from Lidl when on offer at 500g for 50p, which again I consider to be a bargain).

Back to the topic: I have been meaning to treat myself to this product for ages, nows the time :D

I bought my first ever little bottle the other day ... as recipes seem to want it, yet it's not something I've ever had/bought/used, I saw little bottles (38ml) at 85p in Mr L the other week so bought that ... along with a bag of brown sugar, another thing I've never bought before.

Most recipes seem to have rafts of ingredients one's never had/used and never bought.

    Make your own ...

    VANILLA EXTRACT

    Makes 250ml

    INGREDIENTS

6 ‘grade B’ or ‘extract’ vanilla pods
    200ml of 37.5% or 40°proof vodka

    METHOD

Cut the vanilla pods in half lengthways.

Put them, including the seeds, into a suitable airtight bottle.

Add the vodka, covering the pods.

Keep in a cool, dark place for at least 4 weeks before use.

    ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES

Use ‘grade B’ or ‘extract’ vanilla pods, as they have a lower water content and are much cheaper than the ‘grade A’ or ‘gourmet’ ones.

Vodka has the most neutral flavour, but you can also use brandy, rum or whisky.

    TIPS

Using 6 pods to make 250ml of extract meets the legal requirement for commercial single strength vanilla extract.

200ml of vodka should fill a 250ml bottle, because the pods will displace some of it.

If you use just ½ a pod or just the seeds in the future, then add the pod to the bottle. Top up the bottle with 20ml or 40ml of vodka respectively. Leave it for at least 4 weeks for the flavour to be extracted from the new pod.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)

That's the one,I got my DD to get me one as my nearest Morrisons is 6 miles away and a bit of a trek for just a bottle of vanilla whereas sainsbabs is just down the road from DDs.Indeed if you know anyone who likes baking its a great gift for Christmas as if they are like me I use it quite a bit for baking. The make your own vanilla pod thing sounds good but A I would have trouble finding the pods and B I'd rather drink the voddy with ice, slice and a dollop of tonic :):):)
