    Sorry for the delay in coming back to you; I've been off for a few days.


    Re: why I said you should not borrow/gamble to get your debts below the £20K DRO threshold - yes, there were technical reasons for my saying that. Whatever you borrowed would have to be classed as a debt unless the lender was prepared to declare it as a gift to you - in which case it might be treated as an asset and potentially rule you out of a DRO. To cut a long story short and echo happyMJ's advice, why not just focus on bankruptcy as your solution instead? The overall outcome will be the same as with a DRO, but bankruptcy offers you a greater degree of certainty - no splitting of hairs over your debt level, no danger of it being cancelled just because you find work within the near future etc.


    I'm not qualified to comment on how further gambling might affect your mental state, but it's fair to say that it would not be a good idea and I'm glad to hear that you appear to be excluded across the board now.
