Hi ive signed up to try and get to the bottom of whats just happened, hopefully somebody can help because my dad is freaking out.
He owns a business and has just recieved 2 electricity bills for that business.
One of the bills is perfectly fine and is £550 for the past month.
The next letter he opened contained a bill covering the period from September 2014 to Septermber 2015, this bill totals over £11,000! Im feeling desprate as I dont really know how to help and I cant really work out why they have sent a bill charging for a years use?
Hes contacting them tomorrow so we will see how that turns out but in the meantime Im wondering if anyone knows whats going on here or what can be done about it?
Thanks!

There does not seem much to go on, so you may be best waiting until tomorrow.
I would be trying to find out if he has more than one meter (which may explain two bills) and also whether he has been paying amounts that would seem reasonable relative to the business's usage over the last year.
Hopefully the large bill is a mistake.0 -
Is the large (whole year) bill not just an annual statement?
Take a look and see if it shows any credits on it.0 -

Not really sure what you expect any of us to suggest based on this rather sketchy information.
e.g.
1. Did he own the business last year?
2. If so, did he pay for any electricity last year?
3. If so, was it based on actual meter readings?
etc.
Anyway, he appears to be doing the right thing. If he's in any doubt, he should contact the supplier and clarify matters at the first possible opportunity.
If, after having spoken with the supplier to do this, you need any more help, do come back again and post more details
Perhaps if you were to post a legible image of the bill received (remove personal info first), that might also help us to help you?0 -
What is his normal annual spend on electricity? We have no context. No free lunch, and no free laptop

One thing you could do is, as a previous poster says, check to see if there's a second meter anywhere about. Each bill will have the unique meter number on it. If you find a second meter, turn everything off in your premises and see if the second meter still turns. That would give you an idea whether there's a mistake on the address for the second meter which is actually giving power to another address/company.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”
