Man, I'm so rubbish! I'm hoping you are still wanting the update even though you all replied back in January and it is now almost July!
So yes Kitten, I did go for a year of maternity leave in the end, in reality I should have gone back to work much sooner as I didn't enjoy my maternity leave really. But I had a hefty dose of postnatal depression and trauma after the pregnancy, birth and postnatal "care". So I think that was the cause of my maternity leave not being as great as it could have been. As it happens it is irrelevant as I was made redundant during my maternity leave!!! You honestly couldn't make my luck up. So I actually ended up taking 18 months out of work following having the baby.
It is unbelievable that our little one is 3 next month I agree Kitten! Nope, we didn't get a girl, we had a little boy, which was a huge shock at the birth! My husband had convinced us all that it was going to be a girl!
So following redundancy, I now work in a village post office 18 hours a week. Crap money compared to my old job, well compared with most jobs to be honest! I am capable of so much more but finding jobs that fit around children is virtually impossible. We definitely aren't a family friendly nation, however much the powers that be bleat on that we are.
I've found out in the last week that I'm being made redundant AGAIN. I'm feeling pretty awful about it. Life hasn't gone well at all for me since having our little boy. I'm looking for jobs but trying to find one that fits with his childcare is a nightmare. There will be no big payout with this redundancy unlike the last one so I'm pretty desperate to find work fast.
You honestly couldn't make up this bad luck, I'm due for the 30 hours free childcare in September which would make working so much easier, but because I'm being made redundant 31 August I now won't get that. But we have to find the money to keep him in his childcare or I won't be able to get a job, catch 22. I'm feeling pretty upset about this particular catch 22. I can't take him out of his childcare because where I live good childcare is like gold dust and everywhere is full.
Tbh I'm on a real downer about my current situation. Having a child has completely destroyed my confidence so I find the whole job interview process really daunting, I don't have that old bravado for them anymore.Co-op loan: £2672.38. £2886.64 / £5559.02
