If you don't agree with the debt and is dropping off in less than a month why would you pay it?

dropping of your credit report doesn't mean you don't owe the money any more

Cabot can report the account in their name, but they cannot/should not alter the original default date if they do.

That means that after 31/01/2016, the CRAs will simply not show ANYTHING on their reports about this account. Nothing. Not a trace. It will be as if the account never existed.

Settling the account, or not, will not change that fact one jot.

Even if Cabot send data to the CRAs, they do not let that go on your report when the default date is over 6 years old. The CRAs prevent it going on. Cabot have no choice or say in the matter.

From personal experience keep a copy of your credit file with the the date of the default 31/1/2016 and make sure the new people do not put a new date , had the date on one of mine changed the cra did not want to know took a good six months of complaining to get it removed

Can happen with DCAs, though not as common as it once was fortunately.

Thanks for all the contributions guys - much appreciated.

While I dispute the amount to move forward I have paid the full amount.

I will trust come the end of the month this will no longer be registered on my file with no further fear of damage from a future CCJ.

Again, really appreciate the time taken to help me!
