rental car scratched
Trying to get a few opinions here on what should be done in this situation.
Quick summary: Was involved in a car crash with a DAF so its off for repairs and was meant to be given a courtesy car through the repair centre, however they didn't have any at the time and referred me to car rental hire (enterprise) on their behalf.
Have had the rental car for just over a week, though i was hoping to have my car back by now (initial estimate was last friday), however there was a delay with the paintwork or something so its taking a bit longer than usual, probably coz the paint is gun metal so may need to be sourced? Not sure.
Anyway the 4x4 given to me by enterprise is great and have been fine driving it over the last week though i've only used it strictly for work as i didn't want anything happening to it as the subsequent hassle with sorting things out is something i can do without.
But yea leading up from that, i've left it parked at a public car park as i was heading to a client site and on my return i found the passenger side bumper with scratches on it. At this point, i was going a bit mental, as im sure enterprise are going to hold me accountable, but seeing as it doesn't seem a massive scratch, i went to a local chipsaway garage to get it looked and was quoted £150 quid to get it resprayed and looking like it came right out of the showroom.
That said, when i went back to my work place, my mate touched it up with some kinda liquid which removed the yellowish paint that was transferred on the car and got it looking slightly better.
So now im at a crossroads as im not sure if enterprise would make a big deal out of it or not? I've got few options:
1. My mate says i should be ok and should return it without saying anything as they only do a quick check up and would probably not see it (their car park is situated underground so its a bit dark to a certain extent) and once i've signed the sheet returning it in, it becomes their issue. If they come back at a later time and try to argue otherwise, i should be able to say that the next driver or random enterprise guy did it ( they usually move cars to park and relocate etc).
2. Have the chipsaway guy get it sorted for £150 and enterprise would never notice. Is £150 really a fair price? seems extortionate, maybe get some other guy to look at it?
3. Tell enterprise about it and see if they can sympathise and let me get away with it (they may not even care that much, not sure) or expect the stupid £500 quid excess or whatever they charge me straight into their pockets and never see it being used for repairing the car?
4. Anything else i can do?
I've attached pics, so you can see the damage extent before and after.

(yes i know, the quality is crap, but i had my 1980s phone as i was waiting on my new one, which ironically was waiting for me when i got home)

Its a toss up, IMHO they're more likely to spot it on a high end car.
Choice is yours, if the chips away chappie can sort it at your convenience without incurring loss of time or use to you then that's a massive bonus, but you'll definately lose £150.
If the rental company spot it, i would i used to check cars over as part of my previous work, then the charge will be higher because they will include loss of hire charges too.
They may or may not take it off the road to fix it, depends on the class and make of vehicle and how close to defleet it is, but they'll probably charge you anyway if they spot it.0 -

its a premium car i was thinking about takin the 150 hit and they give me guarantee as well if im not satisfied with their work, they won't charge as much for their time. The guy was extremely sure as its not nail deep for the most part just one or two bits which fits in enterprise's 22mm circle card thing they use.
I'll think about it i guess0 -
Perhaps you can try using them magic scratch pens, they seem to work on some you tube videos. And they are cheap, even if it does not work than pay the 150.When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0
