Disks error pn laptop

Options
5 yrs old Samsung is so slow. Computer engineer took it to do a factory restore. He phoned to tell me there are so many disks error on the hard drive and suggested he replaced it with a second hand one. I do not know what to do, shall I ask him to proceed or buy another one? Thanks

  • ask him to fit a new 128 or 256g SSD drive , max pats cost would be about £70 , and the machine will be considerably faster afterwards

As you are paying someone else to do it, and it's no longer in your hands, it's impossible to say whether the diagnosis is true or not, but you could always ask to see the errors, even then, an error in chkdsk doesn't always indicate a disk fault

A new disk is around £30, presumably that's small beer compared to what you are paying him, and obviously tiny compared to the cost of a new machine.

A factory restore is as easy as pressing a couple of buttons, as you've been advised many times, for the dell and the samsung

Definitely go with an SSD.....they start from £30 anyway. Why did you need a 'computer engineer'?
  • however with a new drive fitted it is slightly harder than just pressing a few buttons ,as the recovery partition will be on the drive in the bin, I have not checked the OPs other posts , so do not know the model and/or if they have a recovery CD

not really, but it's a good way of bumping up the price.
