PPi - Where to Start

Is there anywhere that I can find out what loans I have taken out. My wife use to deal with a money matters but sadly she died in 2004. Not long after I moved house and shredded a lot of the old paperwork as I didn't think I would need it again.
I know we took out loans for cars and to consolidate debt in the 80's and 90's and I know we would have taken out PPI with the loans as in some case the success of the loan depended on this.
Any suggestions?
