Oak furniture land - refusing to accept return

Hi, after some help, so hopefully come to the right place!
We recently ordered a large corner sofa and matching footstall from Oak furniture land. This was delivered the week before last (and when the problems started). Firstly as it's a corner sofa it comes in two pieces and there is no way to connect these, secondly one of the units was damaged on arrival. I've contacted oak furniture land and must say the customer service experience has been poor. Anyway they say that the units should not connect and they would send a man out to repair the damage in situ. Being unsatisfied with this response I requested a refund (actually a cancellation as the sofa is on credit with nothing to pay until next year). The response I received was that I could return the sofa but not the footstall as that piece was not damaged. I tried to argue that they were effectively the same item but the would not shift. The footstall cost £299.
So does anyone have any experience of returning multiple items due to damage of one item? Do I have any protection under consumer law? Thanks

Did you order in store?
If so, you have no right to a refund on the sofa, assuming it was clear that these items are 'separate' and don't connect to make one piece of furniture.
Again with the footstool, if ordered in store they have the option to replace, refund or repair. One item does not impact the other.0 -
Did you place the order in store, or online? If it was in a store then you are at the mercy of their refund policy when it comes to the footstool, though appealing to their head office or via social media might be worth a try.0

My reading of the OP is that the sofa is damaged, hence their agreeing to refund. As it was damaged when delivered then acceptance hasn't taken place and they don't have the option to offer a repair or replacement if the buyer chooses to reject the sofa. The footstool appears to be fine, but is obviously now unwanted as the sofa is being returned.0 -
LilElvis yes that's correct. One section of the sofa was damaged on delivery, they will accept the return of this piece and the other section of the sofa however not the footstall. So leaving me with a footstall that I don't want.0

Sorry for my misreading.
Again though, did you order in store? if so, the footstool is yours now.
Why don't you just order another sofa?0 -
Sorry, yes we ordered at our local store.0

The sofa is now discontinued and I don't want to pay £299 for a footstall that doesn't match whichever sofa I get next. Thanks0

Is there nothing else in the same fabric? Have you asked if they are able to source another one?
What is the name of the sofa, have you checked if it is available elsewhere, possibly under a different branding?0 -
Maybe accepting a repair to the sofa is the lesser of two evils.beergander wrote: »The sofa is now discontinued and I don't want to pay £299 for a footstall that doesn't match whichever sofa I get next. Thanks0 -

had the sofa's been fine and dandy when delivered, you would of been happy keeping the footstool that you did want at the time.0
