As a legal secretary I can definitely say we've never asked for that!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

I'd be concerned about using a solicitor who was so stupid they didn't know that a screenshot is worthless.
And I'd be concerned about someone who is unaware that sometimes a screenshot is the only option available to provide evidence of funds being in a particular account - many accounts only offer an annual statement and have no facility for a statement on demand.0 -
But it's not evidence - it would be utterly trivial to fake.0

You need to draw a line somewhere - some of us more pedantic solicitors might ask clients to go into a branch and produce the confirmation of the transaction printed off/stamped by the teller, but then those aren't exactly difficult to fake either.0 -
Having (in a previous life) had certain clients attempt to pay with a briefcase of cash it may be you have just fallen foul of that specific firms regulations particularly if you are on a low salary or similar buying an expensive home. There may just be something about the funding that is concerning the solicitor so they're going belt and braces. With due respect any document can be forged if you're prepared to do so.
