I'm sat waiting for a gas engineer as there's a strong smell of gas in our sitting room
He said he'd be here "late afternoon." Don't know whether to start cooking the dinner - s0d's law says if I do, he'll turn up and immediately want to turn the gas off.

Re. things grandparents used to say:
Many years ago, when we were eating something especially nice like cake or puddings, my old Granddad used to look over at us and say reprovingly 'Oh, I wouldn't eat that if I were you. It will go into your stomach.'
So the other day when my youngest grandchild was eating ice-cream, I said to him very seriously 'Oh, I wouldn't eat that if I were you. It will go into your stomach.'
'Yes, it will,' he said delightedly. 'And then it will come out in my poo.'

Well I've had a lovely afternoon.
I treated myself to a hair cut and came home to watch the last two episodes of Downton Abbey in the peace and quiet of an empty house:( I'm glad there will be a Christmas one :j
Popped into the p.o no Sunsexpress had some though so I've just finished cutting the mocs out. :j tomorrow's job is spending them
Mhoc can't remember the complete details but a couple of years ago we had some info about a speed awareness course, it was either 1 or 2 full days. I remember it was cheaper to pay the fine and accept the points than miss days of paid work!0 -

afternoon all MSE was down for a while (was it just me???)
A question about driver awareness courses
how much do they cost?
how long is it between sending off your letter and getting a reply with an offer of a place (rather than a fine and points)
how often can you book and then change your date and time of course?
how many hours long are they - are they day, weekend or evening sessions?
are they accessed - is there a test at the end?
what happens to your licence now its all card based?
is your insurance company automatically told or do you wait until renewal time?
I looked at the website but it needs your licence number to get access.
no its not me that has been naughty - nearly 2 years since I drove.
AFAIK (2nd hand info) They cost about £5-10 more than the fine would be.
If they have offered you the course, you are virtually guaranteed that you can do the course instead of fine+points.
Round here they are 3-4 hours long. There used to be a session at the end where you drove an assessor around who advised on your driving as you went along. Now they have abandoned that. There may be a quick q&A test not help you become more aware of your speed but there is no pass or fail, attendance and preferably staying awake is the only challenge.
Some insurance companies require you to notify them, either at the time or renewal, others don't want to know.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
