It is my laptop that is the problem, I don't have an ipad or main computer. I have spoken to my neighbour and she hasn't got a problem with it. I tried yesterday to reboot it (the IT answer to all problems :rotfl:) but that didn't work. Ds3 is visiting this weekend (he works in computer forensics) so he will sort it for me. Knowing my luck, it will be perfectly ok when he looks at it, that is usually what happens when I have a problem :o

Oh seems to have sorted it but its very complicated and you will need your IT expert.

OH said it was to do with IE11 and a location issue - having the wrong location - it seemed to think we were in Stoke on Trent

Apparently you need to go to google search help forum
Question cannot chose google for search provider on IE11

This is gibberish to me but it seems to have worked. I now have a black line across the top with a menu on it.

I thought just a shut down and a start up would sort it out or deleting google and reloading but neither of these usual fixes worked.
I also don't understand why google must have had the right location one day and not the next or why it even needs a location as its a desk top and goes no where
