Rointe water heater - garbled display
I've recently moved into a brand new flat, and it has a brand new electric water heater (Rointe RD Series 100L ). There is no gas here.
After 4 days of use, the display started to show garbled graphics. And the buttons became intermittantly unresponsive.

So, Rointe organised an engineer who came out and replaced the entire bottom portion of the heater, the digital display part I mean.
But within a few days, this new system started displaying strange pixels too:

Rointe now say
My concern is that if strange things are happening on the display, then perhaps strange things are happening inside too.. perhaps even amounting to a safety issue. With two systems in a row malfunctioning(?) in the same way I'm wondering if this is an issue with the product rather than my units specifically.
I could put my foot down and ask Rointe to replace again.. but this could end up just wasting my time as well as theirs, if the problem is going to recur.
The manual says "5 years guarantee, 2 years electric and electronic components".. which gives me some peace of mind for now at least.
I don't know what to do next, please help me forumites!
Thanks in advance.

I am not an electrical engineer, let alone a electrical engineer that works for this particular supplier.
But I would have thought that if the supplier has been made aware of the problem, yet it advises you to continue to use the device and monitor the situation, then I really wouldn't expect there to be any safety issues with doing so.
Unless, of course, you have good reason to believe otherwise.0 -

If that is in writing, and it is under 2 years since it was fitted(not when you moved in) you should be OK.
Do other flats have the same system?0 -
Yes the other flats (8 of them) have the same. I need to get talking to my neighbours...I hear the cry of the silence around me.0

can i ask how much it costs to run the boiler, i was always told they cost a fortuneThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Since it is brand new, I would be demanding that they repair it. They should repair it as many times as it takes, not fob you off with "at least it's safe".
If something simple like the display breaks over and over, what does that say about the quality of the rest of it? If there attitude is anything to go by, I would say the quality of the product is probably equally poor.
When the boiler was bought and paid for it was probably expected to work fully, I doubt whoever paid out their cash said "well as long as bits of it are operational then I'm happy to pay full price". Seriously, what people put up with these days is crazy!
I hope you get it fixed.0 -

Any electrical water heater is expensive to run.
However as all electrical heaters are 100% efficient at heating water, they use the same amount of electricity to heat a given quantity of water. i.e. to heat xxx litres of water by yy degrees.
All modern 'conventional' hot water tanks, with one or two immersion heaters, are very well insulated these days and their heat loss is low. This heat loss is measured using a British Standard( for water at 65C over a 24 hour period) and can usually be found stamped on the tank.0 -
This seems an apposite time to bump this to the front page.0
