Odd Laptop Issue

Hi All,
I have a standard laptop only a few months old but it has this very odd issue with it.
At times the cursor freezes completely and despite moving my finger along the touchpad there is nothing until the page starts to expand or decrease. It seems that during this process the cursor always ends up within the zoom section on the top toolbar.
This is a very odd issue - does anyone have any suggestions?

What is the make and model of the laptop ?
When you say the laptop freezes completely , does that mean everything ?
ie, does the keyboard work, or is it just the mouse (pad) that has frozen ?

Does altering any of the smartsense settings make a difference as outlined here ?

I am guessing that something you are doing is setting the touchpad to "screen zoom" mode0 -

Thanks, I'll be using the laptop this evening so I will check these settings.0 -
Tried this last night, however I don't have "synaptic" on my laptop.0

e.g. the synaptics driver may be missing and needs downloading via here

It's a Lenovo Essential B50-80.0 -
I had a Lenovo Z580 that behaved in that manner.
It was resolved by firstly updating the driver (this was a nuisance in itself as it required disabling Driver Signature Verification) and then once that was installed disabling all the pointless 'Gestures' and other guff that I didn't plan on using anyway.0 -
I suggest updating the Touchpad driver in this list (**search for your Windows version; it may be Windows 8.1-64bit or even Windows10 **)

Try a mouse and see if the problem stops...0
