This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
I've been awake since 3 so I've given up trying to sleep & got up.
I have washing on the maiden, it's supposed to be cloudy & damp today so no point hanging it on the line.
Hubby isn't at work today as he's working next weekend but from tomorrow we''l have to be up just after 5, His shift system is changing yet again due to staff shortages.
We have roast chicken for tea tonight, I saw a chicken in Mr T's, it was only £2, I cooked it yesterday when we got home from visiting MIL in hospital and then visiting FIL at home.
We were too tired to eat a roast dinner yesterday so we'll have it today.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

    Morning Hester and all.

Another one who gave up on sleep hours ago. I tried twice going to bed but twice my coughing disturbed hubby and Grandson who sleeps in his bed next to mine. My eyes are bloodshot and my ribs ache. If I hadn't got my Grandson, I'd hot foot it down the doctors this morning but I doubt my daughter could get back in time and I don't think I can get us both ready in time.

Weekend was a nightmare and I'm so glad it's over neither hubby or youngest did anything for themselves and I even heard youngest moan on Skype that I'd made him eat mash. It was 7pm and it was the first thing he'd eaten all day. Of course I could have cooked separate meals like I usually do but I wasn't up to it and neither him or his Dad did a thing to help themselves. Talking about his Dad. He got bored with babysitting duties 4 hours in and after snapping at the little mite for very little...I took over the role of babysitter as well as everything else.

It's 5 am, Hubby's alarm is going off. Thank goodness for that.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

    Morning All

Up for work this morning, that's half term over! It looks dry outside but a little misty. No washing today, it was all dried outside yesterday, just need to iron sometime. The summer stuff can remained unironed and go in a box till next year, I don't somehow think I will need shorts and vest tops any more this year!

DW emptied and PL made, healthy eating today, yesterday went downhill when I went to a friends for her DDs birthday tea, I'll try again today.

Feel better soon Judi. Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Very cold here this morning have put the fore on in the front room for a while, trouble is I don't want to put the heating on timed just yet as most mornings its not cold enough.

Off to work for me today there are a few of us in today so I might get chance to do some paperwork and ordering, would be nice to get some things out of the way.

Roast dinner tonight made double yesterday so just need to heat it up once we get in the beef and pork were delicious and very good value.

Need to do an online shop tonight and have a tidy round tonight.

Csarina and DG thanks for the tips re the sheets, will have a look x

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning all. We have some sun forecast for today but, sadly, only 12 deg so hardly tropical!

No meals to plan today. We are out for tea once DD and DGDs have got washed and changed after work/school. It's middle DGDs 7th birthday today so we are going to the carvery to celebrate! She had her proper party last week and another party at her dad's this w/e so this is just to mark the actual day! Mr TA is going to fast all day after breakfast in the hope of doing a carvery justice. We'll stop off at their house on the way home to open the rest of her presents.

Then it will have to be an early night for us as DS is coming to pick us up at 7.00 tomorrow morning for the drive to the Royal Liverpool for Mr TA's appointment with the consultant. No treatment/scans involved this time, this is to explain the therapy to us fully and address any worries we may have before treatment starts in November.

Not much planned for today before our meal out, just a quick dust and vac downstairs and some towels to peg out.

Have a good day all ((((HUGS))))) if wanted/needed. JUDI I really hope you start to feel better soon. Take care all xx

    Morning :hello:

lol LameWolf that made me laugh :D I keep away from children AND adults – I'm best left pottering about on my own :D

Scampi doesn't know what's hit him, he's having a great time – all this fresh air and freedom to run about on the beach for as long as he likes. We met up with mr tru's mate down at his polytunnels (which were fab and I'm very jealous), he'd brought his two dogs along too so they had great fun racing around the field.

Mr tru made cottage pie for tea yesterday, it was a bit bigger than planned so we'll have it tonight too. And probably tomorrow :D

We're going into Looe today. If it's too busy we'll have to stay out of the middle of town and walk down the edge of the river, then take it in turns to pop to the shops we want to visit. It's sounds like a lot of hassle but it's really not, we know the area so I've already mapped out a route and escape plan if Scampi needs to get away :D I've been walking around with a pocketful of treats, most of the time I manage to distract and bribe him with them but if someone surprises him by coming out of a gate, round a corner, etc. I just need to move him away as quickly as possible, he gets into a right state and takes ages to calm down. Dogs aren't allowed on the main beach, but I'm pretty sure they're allowed on the little beach. I will consult my Dog Map :D

    Morning everyone.

Still dark outside and feels cold. I'm still under my duvet though.

Yesterday was a long day. I took mum up to Ballachaulish which is about 70 windy miles away, and back, to visit one of her friends in a care home there. It was a lovely sunny bright day so the drive was great, do much beautiful scenery and stunning views.

I was in bed by the time Strictly came on so watched it flat out! Today I'm taking mum home, will drop into the car dealer to get an error message cleared from the car dash and then drive home again.

Food will be a normal breakfast and then who knows what. I'll probably succumb to my usual strategy of...if there is a parking space outside the Chinese takeaway it's a 'sign' that I can stop and buy! :rotfl:

Whatever the day holds I hope everyone has a good one.

    Good morning everyone

It's a chilly morning here but it's still dry which is lovely. Hubby has gone off to work all wrapped up and the girls are getting ready to head out the door in a minute. My friend has messaged me to ask if she can come over for coffee after she has dropped her daughter off to school so I will have the kettle on ready.

I've managed a shower and got dressed today so that is good. I had a lovely and relaxing weekend and even better was that my daughter and grandchildren came back from their holiday so they popped in to see us as well.

I am cooking a couple of chickens today to strip down and make into a curry, a risotto and a pie so that will keep me busy this afternoon. I will make myself some porridge once everyone has gone to keep me going and I've got some home made soup out of the freezer for lunch.

Max is completely better from having his op judging by the way he is racing around and throwing his toys about the place. He will be going for a check up this week but I am not anticipating any issues. He doesn't like his cone so he only wears it at night.

Judi, I hope you start to feel better soon and you manage to get some rest.
redruby, I have ordered my extra deep sheets from very/ littlewoods in the past, might be worth looking there as well.

Well thats all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good Morning everyone grey and chilly here today but the forecast is for the cloud to break and for sporadic sunshine later on so we're planning on going for a nice walk somewhere either in the New Forest or to the arboretum where we have membership. Neither option will cost us more than the petrol to get there and back and I've enough in the fridge to pack us a picnic and a flask of tea. Bedding from the spare room is in the machine today and then all is ready for the next visit from either of the girls whenever they have time. I have to say I envy those of you who have children living close enough to see them and their children on a regular basis, both my girls are a minimum of 2 and a half hours away and with both of them working, the eldest mega full time and the younger part time but very long hours I don't have as much close contact as I'd like, thank heavens for skype and the telephone. I think we're going to visit DD2 and Zebra some time in November as she has a 'free' day but I haven't seen them face to face since mid September, still if that's how it is then that's how it is!!!

We've had the woodstove lit in the evening for the last couple of days, it's been feeling just that bit chilly and it's such a lovely thing to get up the morning after and find the lounge still warm enough to be comfortable, wonderful things woodstoves!!!

Have yourselves a really nice day all, Lyn xxx.

Didn't walk today, instead we met an online friend and her hubby for a lovely cuppa and she so kindly gave me a big carrier bag full of perfectly ripe quinces which I shall be turning into delicious jam this afternoon, thanks so much SS!!!

    Morning all,

Just packing up to leave our lovely little cottage, the owner popped round late last night to say the leccy was going off at 9am so we are stopping for breakfast on the way home.

It's been a fab little break and we have managed to pack loads in but can't say won't be sorry to get back into my own bed though and obviously see my animals :)

Hope you feel better soon Judi and everyone has a good day.
