OP, I appreciate your mindset, but unfortunately you have £15k worth of debt, but it doesn't seem like you have had your "lightbulb moment" yet!
Without trying to sound nasty or patronising, I appreciate life would be easier with a car, but you can do without one. Your entertainment budget is £300 (well £308 if you include Netflix!) a month, that is HUGE! I suggest you half this and use this to fund any trips to see parents or friends. (and suggest they visit you more often).
You have used the phrase that you "want" a car many times, but you don't "need"one,
When you have a limited income, you can't aim to pay off £15k and maintain the same lifestyle, I'm afraid.0 -

Am I missing something - where does OP say he is £15k in debt?I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I didn't say anywhere that I had £15k of debt. I have no debts at all!Candyapple wrote: »Am I missing something - where does OP say he is £15k in debt?0 -
I don't have any debts?! I had my light bulb moment about 2 years ago and became debt free earlier this year. See my previous (some of my earliest posts) in other threads for more information on that.19lottie82 wrote: »OP, I appreciate your mindset, but unfortunately you have £15k worth of debt, but it doesn't seem like you have had your "lightbulb moment" yet!
I don't have any debt to pay off? I work in London and many of my friends also live there and honestly £300 does not go that far in this part of the world sadly.19lottie82 wrote: »Without trying to sound nasty or patronising, I appreciate life would be easier with a car, but you can do without one. That's what I thought.
I agree with you in that some posters have been unnecessarily harsh on you. Also being from London myself, I too only know how expensive it can be. Ditto to the car vs train situation. My folks are still London based and now currently living on the coast I know only too well the pros and cons of travelling via train vs car journey when I go visit them.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Buy a cheap banger and run it for a year again why in your position would you want to spend 200 quid out a month on finance or lease0

I agree. I've just had the mechanic come back to me. He confirmed what I thought - head gasket has gone. He'll fix it all for £250, but said the brakes pads also need replacing soon, and the two front tyres are towards the end of their life. Given I know the history of the car (it's been in my family from new) I'm inclined to repair it rather than replace it with another £500 banger. The head gasket repair has come in a bit cheaper than I expected :j . What do you think?Buy a cheap banger and run it for a year again why in your position would you want to spend 200 quid out a month on finance or lease0 -
Better the devil you know. I'd just get the current car patched up.0
