£100 to last the whole month

Options
Hello, I'm new to MSE. Well, I was on here years ago (2009) as Princess Lou. Has since closed down my email for that account, and can't get back on to it.

I miss it on here, and had made some lovely online friends during the time I was on here, as well as taking part in freezer makeover that LoveFoodHateWaste ran through MSE.

I'm ashamed to say that I've long lost my frugal ways :o and I really want to get back to them. The only problem I have is that I'm not going to be able to be eased into them in a nice, gentle step by step way. I'm being thrown straight into the deep end.

We have barely any money to last us for our food shopping for this month, and I would say the maximum is £100 at that. I'd really appreciate any little bits of advice that anyone is able to give.

I hope this is ok to ask, and I'm really glad to be back here.

  • :)Hi,
    Let's start with the basics,
List every single item of food you have, from the fridge, freezer, back of the cup board even garden if you have it . See what you can already make a meal out of.

Check down the backs of the sofa, chairs, bottoms of the handbag. Everywhere for spare change, odd vouchers, store credit.

    Every thing helps:)
today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

We also need to know how many people need to be fed :)
  • OK, I will have a rummage and come back with a list. I have no money until Friday, and then the limited amount from then.

You've probably enough food there without buying any more..... except you'd end up eating a few weird combinations.

As for £100, that's practically "Xmas every day" :)

What you need is combinations/recipes.... get through that backlog.
  • This is to feed 5 people. I know it really seems like a lot, and I'm very embarrassed to post that list up because of that. However, it's all things we've picked up due to being reduced to very cheap prices, and I really don't know what to do with it. Most of the fridge items will turn, as nearly at the BB date.

You could freeze a lot of the fridge stuff before it turns, or use it tomorrow.
  • I'm not sure how to freeze any of the fridge items. :/

I meant to say that our list has to do the 3 meals a day, which include packed lunches too.

With the exception of the potato salad and yogurt (check the dates on them and eat before they expire) and the bread which might go stale but could be toasted and won't poison you then most of the other things in your fridge will be fine while you use them up gradually.

ETA: I'm assuming that some of the 5 people might be children. So things like 4 salmon portions could be stretched to give some smaller portions.
