stain on something that cannot be washed

Hello all,

I am unsure if this is the right place to put this...

But I have spilled coffee on the passenger seat of my car and it has left a bit of a stain..

Does anyone know any good tips or products that can be used for this? Can't bung it in the washing machine :)

thanks!

  • Assuming your seats are cloth and not leather, try wetting the stain with cold water and soaking that up with a towel or paper etc. Repeat until the stain vanishes.

If that doesn't work, then use an upholstery cleaner.

Alternatively, take it to one of the car wash places that have sprung up in recent years. They did a very good job on my seats a few months ago when I was selling the car. They charged me about £12 for cleaning the seats.

For red wine on a carpet, I found that Which? recommended Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover. I had tried all the household remedies without luck and this worked amazingly well, not only on the carpet, but also where it had dried onto chairs with fabric seats.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work equally well with coffee on car seats, if they are fabric.

I tried some Ace fabric bleach, which is now known as Ace Stain Remover got rid of a stain on a mattress, so is worth giving this a go. It's available in most supermarkets, Wilkinson's etc. but sometimes you can get lucky & find it in one of the major pound shops.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

That might bleach the fabric and make matters worse.

Or is it safe to use on coloured fabric?

Edit: It appears to be safe.
  • You could use a universal stain remover that doesn't contain any bleaching agents.Universal Stain Remover] will not cause any damage to fabrics or upholstery and is easy to use. It can be used on tea, coffee, red wine, grease, fruit juice etc. You can buy this from homeandabout.co.uk.
