Balance transfer options from an Amex

Hi all,

I'm looking for an appropriate balance transfer card. Are there any issues in transfering a balance from an American Express to a different card? Specifically to an HSBC credit card.

Many thanks

Don't see any reason why not so long as it is an AMEX credit card.
  • Yeah! You will get issue while transferring balance from AE to different card.

Can you kindly elaborate? What kind of issues?

Actually I had the exact same question because last night I was trying to balance transfer from my AMEX to HSBC and it kept saying the details you have entered are not correct. I was trying online through my HSBC account. The only reason I can think of is that the AMEX card number is shorter than 16 digits.
So is it not possible to do balance transfers from AMEX to HSBC then?

Did you not think to call HSBC today to discuss the problem?

Try adding a zero onto the end of the card number on the balance transfer form. This works with some other banks.

I have an HSBC branch near work and I was planning to go and speak to them during lunch .... and I did. They said I will need to call the CS so I called from the branch, held the line for 10 minutes but all reps were busy.
I called them again in the evening and they were able to do the transfer over the phone without any issues. They said it will take 4 working days for this to appear on my statements.
