Best over the counter book account...

So after a solid year of debt repaying - including 2k overdraft, 1k credit card and a few other debts, I am now in a position to save some money... however, I want to be able to access it when I like, just not via a debit card (I have a spending personality, when I have cash on my card, I spend it...)
Does anyone have any advice on the best option for that is controlled with a passbook that doesn't have an online option to transfer money out?
I'm aware this sounds daft, but, if I have to go to the effort to go into town to get money out, I know that i'll spend so much less than I currently do - especially when i'm bored at home etc.
Cheers!
