Change of career after RTA

I was in a motorcycle accident where a car turned across my path and hit me from the side causing a fractured wrist which I had an operation to have a metal plate fitted.

I do an extremely manual job where i need my wrist to bear large amounts of weight. I am uncertain that I will be able to continue in my career due to the physical nature of my job.

Has anybody had a similar experience in changing career after an accident? Any thoughts would be great

  • Perhaps get a driving job? A desk job would drive you nuts if you're used to physical work.

Once the break has healed you should have full strength in the bone, soft tissue damage and dexterity could be affected.

What kind of fracture was it?

    A colles fracture?

It may take longer than you think to recover fully so any loss of strength or movement will improve with appropriate treatment.
  • Thanks for the reply. It was a radial fracture (fractured in 3 places)

I still don't have full movement and can't bear a lot of weight on it.

    How long has it been?
  • I have thought about retraining as a taxi driver. Nothing is set in stone yet though.
