 only just spotted your thread and dunno if i'm a tad late?
but i have a friend that owns a kiddy hair studio/party venue/shop selling
types of kids bits and bobs... for girls and boys themed on glitter n bugs
(princesses n hero type thing) so she say's.
well to cut a long story short my 2 lil girls love it there, they get their hair done and thier friends, get the chance for a dress up and face paints, nails painted... with sweets, balloons, party bags and invites with buffet option too. My 10 year old loved it, she was made princess for the day.
the only thing is it in cwmbran, but i thought it was a very reasonably priced.
if you want i could email you a price list.

have you tried the local leisure centre. My son had a football party last month at our local (Caerphilly) = 1 hours indoor football then 1 hour party (inc lots of food, party bags, hats etc), we had to buy the cake though altogether cost appx £70 for 14 kids, which compared to pub play area parties is pretty cheap. Our leisure centre also offers other types like trampolining, rollerskating, basketball, netball etc or you can just hire the hall and hire a dj/entertainer yourselves.
We hired a magician to come to our house for my daughters 6th birthday (5 years ago) cost about £100 but we could invite as many as we could squeeze in and did the food ourselves (cheaply), he brought rabbits and doves (clean ones!) and was very funny and entertaining for over an hour, the kids loved it, the only downside to home parties is the preparation and clearing up afterwards. This year for my daughter's birthday my husband took my daughter and 3 of her "bestest" friends to Oakwood all for about £60 (1 adult + 4 children) (+ petrol and any food etc you buy there - advice, take sanwiches + a change of clothes!), the day lasted until about 10.25pm including fireworks and the kids arrived home exhausted but happy.
Alternatively if she's a girly sort of girl you could still do the sleepover thing but make it a pyjama pamper party - get cheap or homemade face packs, mild skin creams, hair things, make up etc (check ingredient suitablity for kids and with parents) etc, get in a dvd and pizza, result - happy, v glamorous children - you can also check local salons about mini manicures/nail painting for kids, most offer it. Hope some of this helps0 -
I run an entertainment company we do themed kids parties such as pirates, princess, high school musical, lasy town etc. Have a look at my website for details and photographs.
