O/S Daily Sunday 18th October 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning NMLC and all who cross post/follow.
Thanks for starting the thread NMLC.
Hugs to TA, LW, Elona & anyone else in need.
The DGC are both up and awake, I was only up 20 minutes before them, hubby is still asleep but then he was still receiving phone calls after midnight.
The DGC & I are making bath bombs today & then we will take them home & go to see MIL.
Lets hope we can avoid BIL1 when we are there, we might ask the hospital not to let him visit as he is upsetting MIL, he keeps hassling her about her will. He's already frightened FIL half to death, hubby will change FIL's locks for him on Monday if he wants him too.
The DGC are hungry so I'm doing pancakes & waffles for breakfast, with strawberries & raspberries.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning
Hugs to all those that want/need them.
Now getting light, looks dry underfoot, was a dull and cloudy day yesterday with intermittent rain - forecast sounds similiar for today.
We were out pretty much all day yesterday - was good to catch up with everyone, but we didn't get home until 6.30pm, so then did dinner, we had a selection of easy bits, southern fried chicken (baked in oven), pizza, chips, onion rings, breaded mushrooms, various salads - all eaten and enjoyed. Today we're having gammon, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy.
DS1 is taking me up to the Opticians this morning, as the arm on my glasses just fell off yesterday - luckily we were on our way home, can't fix them so am wearing them at the moment with just the 1, we thought the tiny screw had come out at the hinge, but that's still all in place so think the pin from the hinge into the arm has broken off inside, hoping they can fix them whilst I'm there, I only have sunglasses otherwise!
DS1 has learnt a hard lesson - went out Friday night, got rather worse for wear and has either lost or had his wallet stolen, with 1 of his bank cards and driving licence in it. Has been reported to the Police and stopped the bank card - but we still don't know yet if someone's been on a spending spree with his bank card in the space of time it went missing and he got to stop the card. Fortunately he had done what we'd told him to take his bank card out of his wallet and put it into a front pocket so if someone pick-pocketed him he would still have his bank card, he has 2 current accounts - 1 of which he's supposed to have shut down - this is the one that the card was still in his wallet! He was so upset yesterday - and after DH stopped shouting (being a complete ....!) which of course is really helpful, not. DS1 could see what we'd been trying to tell him. He hadn't done anything, reporting to Police etc, because he hasn't had to do it before and didn't know what to do and where to go - but I spoke to him whilst we were enroute yesterday and told him to report to Police to get crime no. and try to find an emergency no. to stop his bank card - not helped by the face that the internet was down pretty much all day yesterday and was still down this morning, so I turned everything off left a while and put it back on, it's working at the moment! When we got back last night I DS1 to look through all his bank paperwork and we managed to find an emergency no. to report card stolen, so got him on the phone to do that. He must have felt rough though 'coz he's said he's not going out anymore! Both DH and myself were laughing and said we've all said that - just know your limits and don't go over the top and you'll be fine.
Have good Sundays' everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning one and all. Oooooh can I come to yours for Breakfast HESTER!!!
Hope your DS is feeling better today NMLC and his bank account is intact.
Bit of a miserable day forecast here. No rain, they say, but black cloud will be hanging around all day. After a very chilly morning yesterday, the afternoon turned out lovely so I pegged out my padded anorak and it almost dried. I finished it off by hanging it in the airing cupboard.
I plan to sort out my Christmas present stash today. I usually start buying in the New Year sales and carry on as I see bits through the year. This year has been a bit different though. I started off in fine style but, when Mr TA hit a bad patch and the hospital visits were coming thick and fast, my shopping ground to a stop. So I need to take stock and make a new list of who I still need to buy for.
My Christmas cards were delivered on Friday from Whistlefish so I'm stocked up now for both Christmas and forthcoming birthdays. Lovely quality cards at a reasonable price.
Have a good day all ((((((((((HUGS)))))))))) to those in need. Take care and have a lovely Sunday xxxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread nmlc. At least your son did the sensible thing with one bank card, he can't really help being pick pocketed, it's just awful that people do that sort of thing.
Yesterday mum and I drove down to Tarbert for a walk round the harbour and lunch. The weather was very bright but nippy cold. The heavy fog first thing soon got burnt away. Mum enjoyed a huge pan of mussels in cream sauce whilst I had venison sausages.
Today I'm taking her two hours north so she can visit an old friend who is now in an Abbeyfield home near her family. Mum used to visit her most weeks when they were both in Glasgow so will be good to get them together again for a short while. I'll do a bit of exploring the town whilst they are chatting.
I have no idea on the food front - fridge is stuffed but we seem to be eating out mostly.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday. Perhaps the last of the Indian summer, though I think I wrote that two weeks ago!0 -
Morning All
Well, I'm back from my course - what an experience. We were totally immersed in the Spanish culture with visits to a village in the mountains, eating at traditional Spanish restaurants, had a dance lesson, went to a flamenco show (don't want to go to another!) and tested the beach and the temperature of the Med - they were fine!
When we landed at Glasgow there was fog but it cleared to a lovely afternoon though cold compared to the 26 degrees of Malaga. I have loads of washing to go out today, looks like it could dry. Just have today to get myself sorted, and then back to work tomorrow. I felt cheated at having to go during half term but it was worth it! There were 18 folk on the course, 7 from our school and there wasn't a cross word between us, a good bonding exercise!
HH - Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Gers, enjoy having your Mum to stay.
tru - Have a lovely holiday.
nmlc - I hope your DS isn't out of pocket.
Mrs LW - congrats to your SIL.
Judi - Feel better soon.
Hugs to anyone in need.
I think today is the start of 'watching what I eat' for a while, I seem to have expanded somewhat this past week!
Enjoy Sunday, take care. XX0 -
Good Morning all, chilly dark and damp morning here in north Kent,I think the CH will definitely have to go on this morning. i started DGS Henry's football blankey yesterday and have done three squares already.,only another 40 odd more to do !!!
:):)
Made a fruit cake yesterday and a lemon meringue pie as well, left over pastry got wrapped in cling film and popped into the freezer.I always seem to have a bit left over ,but once I have around four or five in the freezer its usually enough to make something else with once defrosted
Eldest DD is at her caravan in Deal this weekend as its almost the end of the season so her and her OH are closing it down, next Saturday they are off to Las Vegas for a week so she will be able to top up her tan.
Only a few more weeks until my pals wedding and I've still not bought an outfit yet !!.I am hoping to get to Bluewater when Dd comes home from her holiday.
We have booked to take the boys on the BBC tour at the studios in London in half term, should be interesting,if a bit pricey. But its something different for them We will also go to Eltham Palace as we went last year on my EH ticket and the boys had a great time carving pumpkins.
Very busy week coming up as tomorrow I have two U3A things on and also on Tuesday I have a meeting in the morning that I must go to about our U3A Christmas and entertainments agendas, still we get a free lunch which is usually quite good:):) then in the evening I have the pub quiz to go to.Wednesday I must try to get to the hairdressers for a trim as I am vanishing behind my mop
.Thursday I have another meeting with the local health folk about health in the community for older people .and Friday I have History club so I am doing something every day, good job I don't work I wouldn't have time to go
:):) retirement can be quite exhausting at times
I also have three young grandsons to look after after school. The youngest Mikey has just made the 'B;' team in Rugby at his senior school so no doubt I'll have rugby matches to watch and cheer on as well
:):) Still no chance of growing old and daft is there
Hope everyone has a good day despite the looming grotty weather0 -
Morning all,
was in bed at 8 last night. Didnt particularly want to go to bed but the housework was piling up around me and i felt too ill to do it. I cooked the tea and cleared off to bed hoping hubby would wash up and put the piles of clean washing in his and my sons 'out of town' bag. I got up at 3 to find the washing up done and his clothes put away. Youngest needs a kick up the bum to put his away. I normally do it but the least i have to do the better whilst i feel like this.
Ive lost my voice. Pity i havent lost the ability to cough as i'm concerned about the state of my pelvic floor. I havent wet myself yet but it concerns me. Tried to clean my teeth this morning and threw up. Still, at least its off my chest now... positives an' all that!
Hubby came to bed last night. I woke him twice.... He woke me once.... i dunno what he thought a round of 'Hestering' would do but it worked (for him, not me). He didnt stir once after that.
Ive had a hot steamy bath which helped me cough me guts up a little easier. A rant ahead. I dunno what the bloke in the chemist thought he was doing when i went to buy some cough medicine yesterday. I explained about the cough but he was insistant it was just a virus and no cough medicine in the world would help. I take it he doesnt have many sales in his shop. For goodness sake i only wanted some Benelyn.
Got the Grandson for 24 hours from 11. My daughter will be early and not late. Her and son in law are going away for the night. The only time hubby sees our Grandson is when we have him weekends so ive told him he's on 'amusement' duty. I will look after him, feed him, change him etc but i'm not really fit for much else so its down to him. Hubby says he's happy with that.
I think the plan is to take him out for a late breakfast and hubby needs to get some bits and pieces for work so it will involve the pushchair at some point.
Hester, i cant believe how selfish your BIL is. I think he needs to be told to sling his hook.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning :hello:
The journey down here wasn't great, Scampi still doesn't travel well. He loves the beach – as soon as we took his lead off, he headed straight for the rock pools and dipped his whole head in one :rotfl: He bounded around for ages then headed for the sea, where he was only brave enough to go deep enough to cover his paws
We're visiting one of mr tru's mates later on today, he and one of his friends started a business earlier this year and they have all sorts of goodies growing in massive polytunnels. I'm really looking forward to it, especially as they've said we can help ourselves to anything that's ripe
I'd like to go into the centre of Looe today but being the weekend there's lots of kids around and Scampi is still scared of them – the younger they are the worse he is. So we'll stay around here this morning then head for the countryside after lunch.

Morning, hugs to folks in need and get well to those who are sick.
Bit dull and grey here but looking forward to another day out and about, think we are heading off to have a look round Haddon Hall, medieval house that's been used as locations for various films/tv programmes. Then will find somewhere for a lazy Sunday lunch, will volunteer to drive that way my DOH can have a pint with his roast
This mini break is doing us a power of good mainly coz we are having the time just to be together, too often life gets in the way.
Happy Sunday to all x0 -
Good Morning everyone, grey and cloudy here again this morning but 3 degrees warmer than yesterday at 10 deg. He Who Knows is out with Cookie and I'm just off to strip the bed and wash the bedding. I hope it will dry outside like the washing did yesterday, quite amazing for mid October to still be able to put out the wash isn't it? We lit the stove for the first time this autumn last evening and it was blissful. Coming downstairs this morning I put my hand against the brick chimney breast and it's still warm Oooohhhhh lovely! I've only minimal work to do in the house today I went right through everywhere yesterday so other than cooking supper tonight and giving that Cookie a lunchtime walk the day is ours, I may suggest a trip to the arboretum this afternoon for a walk, the leaf colour will be beautiful.
Poor DD1 who had a throat /chest infection all last week and totally lost her voice has been out overnight camping with the expedition children for the trip to Borneo next summer, she was feeling rotten yesterday with a thumping headache too before she went but she takes her responsibilities seriously and this is a team building exercise for the teams that are going so she had to be there. I hope she was warm enough last night and that she's OK today, they were forecast a very foggy day with high humidity so that won't do her breathing much good. Hope she's OK when she gets home after 5 tonight, we'll give her a ring, and they say Teachers are overpaid and have an easy life don't they? if only the reality was known and not the perception!!!
Have yourselves a nice day all, Lyn xxx.0
