Taylor Wimpey house, no tiles at all in the kitchen

Hi all, as the title says there are no tiles in the kitchen, none behind the sink, beside the cooker, or anywhere else. The result of course is that the white painted wall behind the sink and cooker always needs to be painted, every few days. It cannot be wiped as the paint comes straight off and shows the plaster through.
Is this the new modern way? or is is just Taylor Wimpey who do this?
I have lived in 2 Taylor Wimpey houses now and both have not had any tiles in the kitchen. If you look at kitchen pictures from Taylor Wimpey houses, very very few have tiles. Is this the norm now in new builds? I find it very bizarre. I currently have two plastic trays balanced behind my sink and drainer against the wall to protect it from splashes during washing up, and when I cook I am always afraid of splashing the wall as the paint pots have to come out AGAIN !!!!

Unless I'm being really thick.......can't you tile the area yourself? (Unless you're the Sales Rep sitting in the showhome?)0

or you could buy metal/plastic splashback sheeting if you don't feel capable of tiling.0

Quite usual from all builders to just to have an upstand all round the worktops. Our builder also gave us a stainless steel splashback behind the hob. As others have said just put tiles of your choice. I have not had a problem with wiping the painted walls, tho it does come off if scrubbed too hard. We have been in for 3 years, and still not got round to tiling, but the magnolia paint is still fine from the occasional wipe. What on earth do you get up your walls that they need repainting every few days?0

I've noticed that no tiles in the kitchen seems to be fashionable at the moment.
A couple of new builds near me:

We don't have any tiles in the kitchen of our bungalow that we have just renovated, at least not how the OP means, nor did we in our previous kitchen, we just don't like them.
We have three large tiles to make a splashback behind the hob, and tile upstands everywhere else. In our previous house we had a white glass splashback and upstands made out oaf the same material as the worktop.
I'm sure the OP could put something on the wall themselves if they put their mind to it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
We have a new build David Wilson (well, we've had it 4 years now) no tiles at all (except on the window shelf) in the kitchen. We used silk paint which wipes clean... we do have a splash back on the hob though. It's caused us no problems- we certainly don't repaint every few days anyway.0

No tiles in our new build we completed on a few months ago, got so annoyed with cleaning it down I had it tiled within a month!0

I think kitchens now are designed more to look nice than to be practical. It's fine if you don't cook but we definitely need tiles in our kitchen.
They must be going out of fashion though because we've been looking for tiles for ours and there's hardly any choice if you don't want metro tiles. All of the tile shops by us are 99% bathroom tiles. We'll end up with no tiles anyway unless we can find some that we agree on!0 -

Metro tiles are possibly the new avocado.
It's just a matter of economics. Although tiling doesn't take long and requires only a modicum of skill to get almost right, it's cheaper not to bother.
Tiles do seem boring at present. I suppose we toured around 6 or 8 showrooms a few weeks ago, found something for the kitchen which was 'almost there' and then went on-line to finally find what we were after.
In fact, these people deserve a plug, as they were very pleasant and helpful to deal with, if not very inspired in their choice of name! :

They generally don't bother putting tiles in because people want very different tiles or splashbacks, so it is easier just to let people do it themselves.
The ones the builders put in are often cheap and nasty!
I did my own tiling in a new build flat. Watched a simple youtube video and it was SO easy.
Why on earth are you trying to repaint it???? That is absurd!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
