without admitting it in public , has anyone got (or says there uncle fred has) a CG125?
mine is a 2001 model , seems they stopped making them in brazil in about 1999 , and mine is of Turkish origin , the model is a "m1" and david silver says its a European model , imported from Europe but not by Honda UK

the carb thingy , according to the spec it should have one with 2 cables , one of which controls a accelerator pump , mine has,nt , nearest thing I can find is http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Honda-CG125-Carburettor-Carb-Carburetor-NEW-/261420762074?hash=item3cdde443da:g:-oMAAMXQVERS95C7
mine has got a 2 cable throttle and an electrical connection , and I think it should have summot like this on it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CG125-Brazil-carb-carburettor-with-accelerator-pump-/281554704212?hash=item418df7d754:m:mmiOkkB0Nlu6tTOHhBpQvTg
I am told that the one with the accelerator pump was to remove flat spots , however even with the basic carb I have no flat spots , just a lack of BHP and speed!
I know its a commuting bike , however there are a couple of 50 mph stretches of road , and seeing a 40 footer in your mirror gaining fast is worrying
engine sounds good , but there is less than 15mph speed difference between this and my puch maxi,

Does it rev to the red line in the lower gears?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • there is no red line , no tacho fitted! , however the speedo is marked with max speed per gear , say 20 mph for 1st etc (guessing) but there is no way it gets to those numbers after 2nd or 3rd , the truth is the max I have seen is about 52 mph on a long straight bit of road ,

Top speed is probably in the 50s so not too far off.

Remember, [by far] drag is the greatest force to overcome, get yer head down :)

  • yup I am 6ft and a few inches tall , however I thought that about 60-65MPH was there true speed ,

I have had a few problems with the bike , it was found on its side in a garden with branches growing thru it , needed a new ign switch new petrol cap and fork seals , now MOTed and a good (but lethargic) runner , tappets were tight (zero clearance) and the fuel looked like cambells soup , those problems now sorted , I just have a fear of a "Scania" logo being pressed into the back of my jacket.

I take it the breathing has been overhauled?

Air filter, carb clean, rubbers checked for perishing or other leaks?

yup , filter (foam) cleaned and re oiled stripped carb down , cleaned jets , I have actually opened the mix screw a bit , it was at about 1 turn , so moved it to 1.5 , tickover increased a bit and after adjustment sounds better , tis a !!!!!! to do whilst on the bike.

seems that there are a lot of carbs on ebay , basic ones (non accelerator pump) as a basic replacement.

the only number I could find on the carb was PZ26 , however the name was not makuni

You can over-oil the filter which will choke it up

Have you checked the float height?
Also worth lifting the needle a notch to see how it goes.

PS PZ26 is a Mikuni carb so it's either unmarked or a clone

  • well I read up on Honda forums regarding the foam filter , most (non sponsored) said to clean then soak in a 20/50 or atf , wring and stand , the plug looks good , at this point I have not reset the float hight , because I hav,nt got a clue as to what it should be , likewise needle , plug is good colour

as the tappets were tight I will try to borrow a compression guage over the weekend , I have however give it the "diesel down the plug hole" to free the rings off and it has worked , as the power has increased

  • yup its the one with the flat floats and the mix screw in an awkward place to get at , as I hav,nt got any flatspots I cant work out to upgrade to a the accelerator model , £40-50 secondhand £300 from Honda ,
