Without wishing to be blunt, if the premium upgrade provides the comfort that you need then I don't see the point in eating about the bush and not booking it.

The only question I would be asking myself is it important for the group to sit together ie does everyone need a premium club seat?

Could you and your partner book the premium and other other 3 the first 3 seats in economy so you aren't far away. In all honesty most of us just sit on a plane and stare into the screen, you could have the queen sitting next to you and most wouldn't notice

We travel long haul twice a year with Tui/ First Choice and have monitored the prices over a couple of years and given their popularity they normally increase in price.
We were very lucky for our holiday to Jamaica in February,we booked last March and I got the two of us upgraded for £360.
    Last year we paid £690

    Hi again OP,

Special assistance on the plane is not the same as special assistance airside/landside, and you can have one without the other.

Give them a ring and see what they can do - it cannot harm to do so, and tell them you need to have your partner sat with you, and your child needs to be with you also, and they will sort it out, usually free of charge.

If you tell them you need a plug socket for medical devices, this will be provided as requested, along with potentially allowing extra hand luggage such a sleeping bag without charge if medically needed.

The whole point of them existing is literally to help those with disabilities; if you won't or don't want airside/landside assistance (although they can make check in and security queues disappear, don't write them off too much) then you can ask for assistance on the airline only. The only thing you will need to do is present early at the check in desk to make them aware of your needs, and so they can get you comfortable and ready to go.

I must admit I've been tempted to book these premium seats for when we go away although admittedly we only 2 people to consider. We've decided against it though.

However if I had the medical issues that the OP has there would be no question of me not paying for them if I couldn't get them for free. Surely your in-laws would pay for themselves,if they chose to have premium seats?

Why would your OH go mad? If it was a case of getting you there in a condition that enable you to enjoy a £8000 holiday then its a small cost imo
  • i know this was a couple of months ago but premium seats have now gone up around £100pp in the past few weeks.

OP - Do Thomson know that you want to plug in a heated pad? I think you should get their permission for this. I would have thought it could be a fire risk, and that at the very least they would want to be assured that it has been tested for safety. I'd be surprised if they gave permission, and if you use it without permission you will run into real problems.
  • What plane are you flying on?

We flew on an airbus 330, with Thomas Cook, recently.

Now I'm a big girl but I found seats big enough for me (and usually I have to wedge myself in lol!). Also each seat had an individual screen for entertainment which came complete with a usb port.

Agree though it would be worth checking that you can use the pad - if you can't then alternative arrangements can be made.

If you need it, I would suggest booking it. The longer you wait the greater chance they will sell out. The premium cabin is small, all you need is a group of 5 booking together and you may find there are no seats together available.

Whereas the airline may be willing to give you seats together free due to your disability, they won't uproot passengers who have paid for their seats to facilitate this. If you don't tell them your needs you risk only getting 2 seats together because the airline will assume that one adult can sit with one child and the other adults don't need to sit together.

I need to be allowed to take a small sleeping bag on board ............. (yes really- a sleeping bag sounds drastic but my blood flow is so bad) and I need as much room to move around as possible! I want to be in a smaller area whereby the temperature is easier to control. I need hot drinks as a method of keeping my hands warm, Premium Club also has the offer of an electric plug built into the seats… This means I'd be able to plug in my electric heat pad too. My conditions are unusual and yet cause me a great deal of suffering. To be able to fly in comfort and without pain would be amazing.

I'm so tempted to just book them but my husband will go mad!

    Really?

If you need these things then pay for them. If your husband goes mad you have bigger things to worry about than the price of upgraded airline seats.
