Queries regarding PIP payments

I made the initial call regarding PIP in August then sent back the completed forms at the end of August. Yesterday i had my assessment. The assessor said a decision by DWP will take between 4-8 weeks.

If i do qualify when do the payments start from? Are they backdated to August or just going forward?

At work im on PAYE. I believe you don't pay Tax on PIP. Does it though count along with salary towards the £50k cap for child benefit cap?

If you are awarded PIP then it will be backdated to the date of your claim.

PIP is not taxable so therefore is not counted towards the £50k salary cap.

Remember the £50K salary cap is based on individual income not joint income.

    Thank you.
So to the date of first phone call where you answer general questions and they then send you the forms?

    Thank you.

I believe it is from the date of your original claim (telephone call). Hopefully someone else can confirm (or not)

Just a couple of points to this though.

Am presuming this is a new claim for PIP?

Those transferring from DLA to PIP do not receive any backdating and it is not in payment until 4 weeks after the decision (DLA is paid up to then)

Plus (!) backdating is only awarded on a new claim if the 3 months eligibility for PIP has passed. So you had to have the 'condition' for 3 months before the claim. Otherwise it will only be backdated to the end of the 3 months period.

Hope that makes sense :) Just trying to cover all scenarios.

Yes this is a new claim. The illness started in March so is more than 3 months from start of the claim.

I made a claim a few weeks ago as well for PIP, I called ATOS on Thursday who told me they made a decision based on the evidence I sent,

Can this have a negative impact where they can deny me, Without asking additional questions etc?

it usually means that you sent sufficient information/evidence for them to feel they have a clear picture of your needs.

ATOS don't make the decision. a DWP decision maker does.

Do you get any confirmation they have received the forms? Sent mine back about a month ago, have seen some people mention they got a text confirmation to say they had been received.
