A moden take on the 'I want to mount by telly on the chimney breat' question

Hiya

I've seen this question many times on many forums but wanted to ask it in updated format, as it might relate to the advice given seeing as that now we have smart TVs and the like and wifi connectivity to get our favourite TV programs and so on.

So currently I have a flat screen that's not over a fire but is wall mounted and all cables hidden by being channelled out behind the wall (what a job that was!!).

So I know that if I translated that setup to my soon to be new house, where it would be a chimney breast situation where I intend occasionally to have an open fire or log burner running that it wouldn't be possible to channel the wires partially beneath the surface or run them through a hole into the chimney breast itself.

BUT if I had a smart tv instead with either Sky or Virgin wifi connecting boxes, would the same issues of running cables exist?

I've not actually seen anyone with a smart TV yet so I wasn't sure what cables there's be to accommodate - would you still need the great big thick HDMI etc? Could you go fully wireless if you picked a different setup?

Cheers.

yes there are still cables to run, power, hdmi. Also I would not recommend sitting a TV above a fire which is in use due to the heat from the fire overheating the electronics.
