For me theres got to be something to attract me in the first place... otherwise they are kept at arms length ... just as a friend.

    I wouldnt date a friend.

Some of the replies on this thread bring to mind an oft asked question of mine.

If first impressions repel a woman so much, how does the nicest guy that may be short, have a beard or some other visual deterrant ever get a chance to prove just what a nice guy he actually is?

Just for the record, the only deterrants for me as far as women go are a smoker and someone that is under a size 10.

    Chanel 4 First dates

I used to enjoy my Chanel no 5 first dates, where the ladies ended up wearing nothing but the perfume. ;):)

Are there still people out there who would chance more dates to see how things progress.

Probably not. I reckon you can easily tell within one date if someone is appropriate as a long term partner if that is what you are looking for. Whats the point in going on numerous dates with a woman (or a man) who you know it'll never work out with?
Where has the term 'Courting' gone to.

It's clear your a little older than me, the only person I know who uses this term is my nan. I have to be honest I don't even know what it means but I assume it's the same as dating.

Because there is someone out there for everyone. There will be plenty of women out there who find short guys with a beard attractive.

I don't really understand your post much either. You ask about physical impressions and then question how a guy is meant to have a chance and then list your own physical dealbreakers yourself. Surely that alone can help you appreciate this?

Really!!!! I am starting to doubt that personally.

And given up on the whole idea of relationship again.

Absolutely, you can extend the date if its going well, or make your excuses and up sticks fast without causing offence.

For some of us, height is inseparable from masculinity. Tall women have sensitive radar to short man syndrome.

Height is a physical feature that comes at the top of most women's wish list.

I think that is fine......as long as women don't have double standards and vilify a man for having similar requirements

Go onto any dating website and look at the profile pictures.

You'll see that on average, the women are far more visually attractve than the men. Yet men seem to have a very high opinion of their own personal attractiveness that doesn't quite "project" through the medium of the world wide interweb.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I didn't 'fancy' my husband when I first met him. However, he was a friend of a friend and I got to know him more. It was then I realised I actually quite liked him! ;)
