Is the folders search as useless as it seems.

I am searching for something in top right corner of a Windows Explorer.

It shows:

Add a search filter
Authors: |Type: |Date Modified: |Size: |

But it does not find what I want, which I know is there, in folder below.

How do I get this to work ?

Can I get a Search view that works like on Windows XP ?
.

It sounds like the Indexing Service isn't working. Try this to rebuild the index, open the Control Panel and select the option to view All Items then select Indexing Options. When the dialog box opens click the Advanced Button then the Rebuild Button and try again.

Unfortunately Windows 7 doesn't have an independent search application like Windows XP did. I did come across this third party application though that is free and provides the same functionality - http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack

There was another post here earlier which has been deleted with a link to another Folder Search application, can you repost, can't remember what it was.

    Thanks

I looked at Indexing Options, all my personal User/Document folders were included in original default settings to be indexed.

Still not sure why it isn't finding files.

I selected Advanced, Delete & Rebuild Index.

    That didn't solve problem.

I then selected the whole C: drive to index, which isn't recommended, but that hasn't solved problem either.

On my Indexing Options, it now shows 1016 items indexed, which seems small.

If I select Advanced, Delete & Rebuild Index, it only takes less than a minute to complete, which seems too quick.

My File Folder Search seems to find only new files created, not old files.
(probably ones after I did Delete & Rebuild Index)

But it doesn't seem to have rebuilt index with all my old files.

Anyone got any ideas or suggestions ?

If I Delete & Rebuild Index again, it then stops finding the new files it was finding.

forget windows tools, they are just painful to use. Use everything search from post #4, doesn't need the indexing service, and is instantaneous

One problem with Win7 search is that you have to put in the file / folder name fairly exactly - ie it doesn't really cope with only part of the name - unless there's a space in the name, then it seems to work OK with either (complete) part either side of the space.
