    zippychick - if you could move this thread to the Toooo many tomatoes thread, that might be the most appropriate place as it covers ways to try and process them. thanks.

    I've had another idea:D:idea::D

    - howzabout contacting one of/THE "human interest" reporter in your local newspaper about this and suggesting that they might like to run a little article (complete with photo of yourself standing surrounded by surplus tomatoes or in your garden or suchlike - apron on and large wooden spoon at the ready) headlined "PLEASE will someone teach me how to can my surplus garden veg?". I estimate there is a very good chance the newspaper would publish such an article - and you never know....:D

    August is a pretty dead news month too - so your chances are all the better for getting this....

    Brilliant ideas - only change that I would suggest is to use the word "bottle" rather than the American "can" - most UK home preservers, especially those from older generations would only associate cans with tins and so might not come forward.
  • Hi, Lakeland also sell kilner jars and spare lids.

    Thanks Primrose!

    I would contact the WI for curiousity -if you do, let us know how you get on.

    My tomato plants are all starting now (late bloomer he he) so i'm sure I will be faced with my own glut soon!

    Hi there

    I found a recipe online for tomato cake (not using soup) and now I cant find it. Does anyone else have a recipe for such a thing.

    I'm trying to use up a glut of tomatoes and already have pasta sauce, soup and relish done so far....
