SDP Unsure??

Options
I recently got awarded standard rate PIP and it was backdated to June, was pleased this happened then I got a form from DWP to fill in to say I may be eligible for Severe Disability Premium, is this an automatic form they send to ppl if they are awarded PIP or do they know I qualify?? I am on ESA, I filled in the form and posted it on Thursday. I live on my own with my two children and don't have anyone who receives CA or cares for me, so does this mean I'm entitiled to it and would it be back dated same time as PIP (June)?

Thanks for your advice

The 'rules' for the SDP are here:

    http://www.entitledto.co.uk/help/severe-disability-premium

it sounds as if you do qualify but only if it is the daily living component of PIP you receive plus your children are dependants (in FT education - receiving child benefit for them)

If you are eligible then it will be backdated to the start of the PIP award - ie. when you became eligible.
  • Thank you very much for your information, do you know the rate for the SDP?

    Thanks

    its around £62 a week.

as you have children, i personally would see it as a bonus and keep it separate, rather than making it a necessary part of day to day living as at some point, your children will become adults. and unless you are willing to kick them out, this premium will stop at this point
