Car reg not recognised

I purchased a second hand 06 plate car from a reputable dealer last month. We just switched on our existing insurance policy at the time as it's up for renewal this month. Now I'm trying to get quotes but no insurance sites/comparison sites are finding the registration. Yet the DVLA check online finds it, I have the V5 and it's taxed no problem.
Anyone else experienced this?
Problem I have is that I can't seem to go for any online/cashback deals as I'd need to complete the policy on the phone because the online systems keep reverting me back to square 1 to search for the reg. I can get to the point of quote by searching for the make/model/spec, but then to seal the deal, it still requires the registration (obviously) and all the systems seem to then do a search on it again.
Frustrated as on the phone the price goes up as I don't then qualify for online prices and then also cannot qualify for the cashback deals available.
Anyone know anything I can do to get round this? Or more importantly, why is this happening and should I be concerned?
Thanks

Yep, tried both with and without space0

have you spoken to any of the insurers about it?
If you get a phone quote and explain the issue they may be willing to adjust the quote - I've done this (in my case, the glitch was that online, it kept resetting the date of acquisition to when the previous owner bought the car) When I phoned up and explained they honoured the online quote.
Alternatively they may be able to look into why it isn't recognising the number. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Ask the dealer if it used to be a private plate or something.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Just use the car type for the quote then call up to make the purchase.0

Afeer we switched our private number to our new car it kept coming up as the old car - a differnt make- for at least a year.
It seems to depend on how often the insurance company update their system.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. Seems a logical explanation, although the dealer was apparently ignorant to any reason behind the insurance not recognising it. Oh well, will try giving the chosen insurance companies a call. I tried a couple who were unhelpful but will try again.
Thanks again.0 -
I had a similar problem (I think). When I looked for cheaper car insurance quotes via search engines it kept coming up that it couldn't ID my car reg, even though I've not changed the reg plate since purchasing the car as new from Ford in 2003 & never had this issue come up before. I went with a new insurer, via online purchase. After taking my payment they emailed me wanting me to re-confirm my details with them on the phone which I did. They then emailed me saying they wanted proof of no claim (as usual), a copy of my driving licence, both parts (never had this request from previous insurers), a copy of my tenancy agreement for my residence & a copy of my V5 ownership document. They then further requested a copy of my bank statement, a utility bill & other proof of no claims apparently the certificate from my current insurer wasn't sufficient. If you are prepared to supply this level of personal information to the insurance provider, I can't see an issue with you getting the insurance you want, but I wasn't prepared to give them this level of ID and told them so, cancelling my insurance with them. This cost me a £27 fee, but the info they wanted felt too invasive (like ID theft!), so I stuck with my previous insurer even though it cost a bit more money. I work for a law firm & we require a certain level of ID proof for money laundering purposes, but this insurer's request felt too extreme. I was wondering if the law had changed regarding ID required when taking out car insurance? Wish I'd know before as it would have saved me to £27 admin fee. This could be your issue so call them and see what ID they need before taking out any policy.0
