I have had to have my old laptop taken back to factory settings because of corrupt Windows files. This laptop will primarily be used for slide scanning my huge slide library with a Plustek scanner. It is Windows 7 and I will probably not update the operating system.
Before the reset I had Vuescan software on the machine and it worked extremely well with the scanner and the results were good. Will I need to install the scanner driver or will Vuescan sort it out when I select the correct Plustek scanner?

Most of the scanners or all-in-ones I've used have used TWAIN and would need the scanner driver to provide the link to the hardware. Even if not TWAIN I'd expect you to need to have the scanner driver installed.

I do have the original scanner driver but will look at the site because there is bound to be a more up to date one. The way I was reading the Vuescan info it wasn't clear. Thank you0

I find VUEscan always works when i have no drivers .0

Wouldn't you need a driver for Windows to even recognise the device?0

I think I am right in saying that some devices are recognised when they are connected by USB. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.0
-
Yes - but only with a basic driver built into win7
For the more complex devices this may not give access to all their capabilities.0 -
I've used VueScan on 7 and 8.1 and not installed any drivers.0

Vuescan uses its own drivers. You will most likely not have to install the ones from Plustek.0

Thanks for the responses. I will look out everything I need and give it a go tomorrow,0

An update. I finally got round to installing the slide scanner earlier this week. I did need to install the driver from Plustek for Vuescan to recognise it. All is now working.0
