What happens if the DWP dont receive my sick note in time?

Another ESA related question, sorry :o

My sick note ran out 8th October and I got a new one. It wasn't posted until the evening of 9th October due to circumstances.

I'm due to get paid on the 20th October and received a letter today saying that if my sick note isn't recieved by the 22nd October my benefit will stopped.

I've had no text from DWP about them receiving my sick note and am starting to get worried. I am going to ring them on Monday if I haven't had a text by midday.

Worse case scenario, if my sick note hasn't arrived by the 22nd what will happen? If I ring and explain will they be able to ring my doctor and confirm that the sick note was issued? My anxiety is really bad right now and I'm going to be worrying all weekend about this.

Thanks x

Ring them on Monday to check if they have received your sick note.

If they haven't then get a replacement and an appointment at Job Centre Plus to fax the fit note for you.

If you have any difficulties contact CAB who will make a phone call on your behalf to see what is happening/what you should do.

Try not to worry. These things can get sorted pretty quickly.

Potentially they can call your doctor to confirm that a certificate has been issued, although it's not something they have to do.
  • Thanks, hoping it will turn up on Monday but if not will ring them, tried earlier but the phones were busy all day and never got through to anyone x

Unfortunately the letters are really strongly written to make sure people understand that a medical certificate is necessary. But your claim wont close down just because its late by a few days.
It can take 2 full weeks for med certs to be processed through the postal system used now so dont post if there are only a few days. You can take your certificate to the job centre without an appointment and they will send it through to the processing centre the same day.

  • Thank you, I have issues leaving the house at the minute so can't take it to my local job centre but if needs be I do have family who could take it in for me if it's allowed and if my doctor will give me a duplicate, I'll ring them on Monday and hope they've received it.
I had my assessment with maximus a week ago so really don't want my claim closing down and having to go through another assessment or anything xx
  • I didn't receive a text this time to say my son's sick note had arrived (even though I put mobile number and NI number etc at the head of the sick note as requested.

It must have been received though as his ESA has been paid since then. I was a bit worried too.

I did take a copy of the sick note, just in case though.
  • Any luck Daisychains?
  • They received it this morning :) took 6 working days to get there which isn't too bad x
