We've just moved into our new house and change the provider from british gas to npower. Today we received the bill from british gas, for the 2 week handover period and it's over £300!!
I'm ringing them tonight but I was wondering if anyone had ever had similar? We normally would spend this much in a year, not in 2 weeks.:mad::mad:

That is, of course, unlikely to be the charge for the usage over the two weeks - they will have used the last reading on record for the property. That could either have been underestimated for a while or from weeks ago. The charge could be just the usage catch-up from then or an additional estimate from expected usage.
Regardless what matters is the readings on the meter when you bought or moved into the property - compare that reading with current to find actual cost.0 -
That'll be meter readings not being accurate.
What was the opening meter reading and the closing meter readings? Do they correspond with the readings you took yourself when you moved in that you personally read yourself?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

If it's an old style dial meter it can be very easy to mis-read.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

If you expect to spend only £300pa on gas then you are going to be disappointed...
You need to quote actual kwh usage, £££'s tell us nothing. No free lunch, and no free laptop

New house as in 'New Build' or new house as in new to you but built years ago?
Did you provide a start reading to British Gas when you moved in?
Did you provide a start reading to NPower when they asked for it, so they could then send this final read to British Gas?
Check the readings on the bill!0
