I have looked through the forum and this comes up quite a lot with new claims, so I apologise for going over old ground but I hope someone can clear up my question:
Would it be possible that a mortgage company charged me it without ever telling me?
That's what I want to know really, if I did pay for PPI it was definitely fraudulent! I would never take it knowingly, I remember having a lot of pressure put on me from my bank manager when I took out my first car loan nearly 30 years ago, but I stood my ground and got the loan without PPI. I have been telling people to watch out for it well before the whole PPI scandal.
How do I go about investigating if I was miss sold PPI from a mortgage I took 15 years ago when I have no paperwork, and is it really likely that a company would be completely underhand about it when taking a mortgage?
Will the mortgage company keep records beyond 6 years? Is my only option to phone them and ask, or is there another way.

It would stand out like a sore thumb. All MPPI sold by banks was standalone for starters and not built into the debt (like loans). The vast majority was paid by its own direct debit. Although some societies on older lending did collect the premiums for insurance at the same time as the mortgage. However, these appeared on the mortgage statements. So, again, couldnt be missed.I remember having a lot of pressure put on me from my bank manager when I took out my first car loan nearly 30 years ago,
Which is interesting as that pre-dates the sales pressure days and many banks hadnt started offering PPI at that time.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If it was billed separately I would have seen it.
Maybe 25 years ago. I am prone to exaggeration :-)0
