That's the type of coffee maker we use. :)

PS ... are the new pots New or Improved? They certainly can't be both. ;)

Ah the humble Moka Pot :) I wouldn't be without mine, although I do have one of the smaller Lavazza Modo Mio machines as well.

If the OP no longer likes the new pods, do they do compatible pods for Tassimo? Check ebay. If so they're usually a fraction of the cost of the originals.

Thought the old one was pretty rank too, if I'm honest...

I'm more annoyed that I don't seem to be able to find my favourite pods - Kenco Medium Roast - in the supermarkets now. ALL the big 5 have confirmed they no longer stock them, yet they are still on the Tassimo site to buy online.
    Mmmm,

Sounds to me like Tassimo and / or supermarkets aren't renewing the supply / purchase agreements and they want to become the exclusive source of the pods.

Could that have anything to do with some supermarkets attempting to make their own brand version of Tassimo pods to compete?

  • I wonder if it'd be cheaper for all you coffee lovers to buy a samovar and coffee grains / beans separate?

(Samovar is a hot water urn.)

My guess would be the supermarkets don't have the shelf space for some flavours that aren't selling that well :)

It's annoying but I've noticed a lot of times that certain things seem to get smaller slots on the shelves then disappear for a while (our preferred gravy seems to disappear from the Tesco shelves completely for a few months at a time with no space even left for it).

If only that were the case. The Tassimo product/concept/design/machine are closely guarded by Kraft Jacobs Suchard (and they either own the brands of beverage in the pods (Kenco, Carte Noir, Cafe Hag, Milka etc) or licence them (Twinings, Costa)). Machines are built solely by Bosch.

I can't see that any supermarkets or independents have any Tassimo machine compatible products or pods at all, nor are they likely to (IMO), unless you know differently?

I apologise, it may have been Dulce Gusto compatible pods I've seen.

Interesting that Kraft (and that they're involved should be a warning right there) and Bosch seem to have monopoly and this is (or should be) against EU and WTO rules?

Why, can you buy a Big Mac anywhere but MacDonalds?

The Tassimo "T-disc" and "intelli-brew" process, using bar-codes on the pods, is the patented invention of Kraft. They gave the contract to build compatible machines to Bosch, after the original machines were distributed by Braun (but, curiously, not built by them - it was an Italian coffee-machine maker called Saeco).

Nothing wrong with this at all, that's called "business"...

I'm sure if you really wanted to then they would sell you a licence to make T-discs, for a fee. :T

Noooooooooooo.....I have the Costa Cappuccino every morning - one milk pod, then the coffee pod run through twice. It makes it just the way I like it. Can you still do this ("double"* pull the coffee) the new way?

*I know it's not quite full strength double but it works for me
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Nestle were the first to market with their "nespresso" pods but, rather foolishly, they did not patent the format hence anyone, from Lidl to Honk Kong Fooey International, can produce knock-offs quite legally.

Kraft were more Krafty (see what I did?) and made sure that their mechanism was suitably covered. Hence they (and anyone they may license it to) have exclusive rights to manufacture that item.

Nestle, once bitten, subsequently launched the "Dolce Gusto" range, which is similarly locked down.

I have both Tassimo and Dolce Gusto machines. IMHO the Tassimo has (had?) the better coffee but the Dolce Gusto less fuss. It will take me a while to find out though as I have a wardrobe full of Tassimo pods.

OP have you informed Kraft your not happy with the change, if enough let them know they aren't happy they might (a big might at that ) change back to a milk pod.
