Updating browser

Options
Hello

Technophobe asking for help regarding browser.

I have used the same version of Internet Explorer for a few years. However, I am finding that an increasing number of sites are saying they no longer support my browser & give options to update to a newer version.

I want to update to the latest version of Explorer but how do I copy my favourites/bookmarks over to a new browser. Also once I have downloaded a new version should I delete the old one?

For information my operating system is Vista.

Thanks

As far as I recall, IE9 is the latest version supported on Vista. IE10 and IE11 are not supported by that operating system?

Most browser updating did so without affecting your favourites. Firefox will allow you to import your favourites from IE, providing, of course, that you install Firefox first!

As above, you really ought to consider upgrading to Firefox or Chrome. Either will allow you to import bookmarks etc. from Internet Explorer during install.
  • Fermi's comment that Vista does not support IE10 and 11 may well be true but that doesn't mean they won't work on Vista

Neither IE10 or IE11 will install on Vista. They are not supported. The last version of Internet Explorer for Vista is IE9.

IE9 doesn't have the compatibility issues with (most) websites that are being reported and Vista comes with IE7 by default.
  • Hi,

if you click the help button / ? mark down arrow / or wee gear wheel, then 'About Internet Explorer', it will tell you what version you are on and should offer you an update to latest version for Vista.

It will save all your settings.

Though I would also suggest trying Firefox, I have both but use FF and only keep IE as a reserve.

You can install another browser and keep your IE in place. When you switch your pc on you just choose which one to use. From memory Firefox asks if you want to import your bookmarks as part of the installation.

    Hi, yes it is ..

Go into your c: drive, then into USERS, then into your username, then you will see a folder called FAVOURITES ..

Copy that (or its contents) to wherever you want
