OK, friends. Here is the Brown Pig Update:
mr f called at the sorting office to collect it & it wasn't a brown pig. It was a large squishy brown parcel. I can only assume that our postman had indeed attempted to write something akin to 'Brown package' on the Red Peril card, but had instead, most unhelpfully, written 'Brown Pig'. If it was intended to say 'Brown package', I fail to see how this could have been helpful to the duty member of staff at the sorting office as it was wrapped in ordinary brown parcel paper so would have been the same colour as pretty much most of the parcels there. Hmmmm.
Anyway, bet you want to know what was inside? It was from my sister in London & contained a lovely cushion in a hand-knitted cablestitch purple cover. She knitted it to sell on her knitting stall, but decided people might not want to buy it because it didn't have a zip, so she sent it to me instead. A lovely surprise. Much cheaper to keep & 100% less smelly than a brown pig!
So there you go. Mystery solved!
F xx2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Shopping done,
Thank goodness we're no longer shopaholics. I'm exhausted from all that traipsing around crowded shops!
Did't spend too much. OH got two pairs of trousers for £15 which was very reasonable.
Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 5:
* [STRIKE]Have reserved a £20 gift in town for OH. Usually sells for £40. This will go into the Decemberfest box.[/STRIKE] Got it.
* [STRIKE]Will get free coffee at Ikea as we have a loyalty card and it's a weekday.[/STRIKE] Offer downgraded to coffee for 40p. Still cheap for a cafe.
* [STRIKE]Will fuel car at Sainsbury's when we go passed it. They are giving extra Nectar Points when you buy fuel from them equivalent to 5p/litre off the cost until the end of this month.[/STRIKE] (Link) Also got free air for tyres. One tyre was alarmingly low.
* [STRIKE]Get a M&S Sparks loyalty card when we go past.[/STRIKE] (Link) Got it. M&S staff hadn't been briefed on this new scheme!
* [STRIKE]Was going to make new sitting room curtains as ours are derelict...After doing the Maths it's cheaper to buy a new lined pair in the Argos sale than buy lining fabric and more dye, and still cheaper than making a whole new pair.[/STRIKE] Very happy with them. Didn't iron them before hanging. The creases will drop out of their own accord. Put old curtains on Freecycle.
* OH wanted a new duvet. We decided to buy one as our Winter one is 8+ years old and no matter what we do to it it is flat and inefficient at keeping us warm. Shopped around for cheapest price. Put old duvet on Freecycle.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Evening folks!
ccl - glad that the appointment was a bit more helpful. I hope these are the first steps for you both
foxgloves: probably better than a pig (remains unconvinced
)
I haven't done quite as much as I had hoped this evening. Got home to find that OH wasn't getting picked up for the gig until 8 and so was expecting dinner. Decluttered 3 cook books while having dinner. Also removed a box of tea light holders, another tea light holder from the spare room and yet another from the living room. Also had a discussion with OH about an ugly playing card holder that he claims has sentimental value.
Me: this playing card holder...
OH: my gran gave me that. It has sentimental value
Me: but its shoved in a box out of sight
OH: It's sentimental. I'm not getting rid
Me: perhaps if it's special then it should be on show
OH: I can't believe you want me to get rid of it
Me: I don't. I want you to put it somewhere that you can appreciate it
OH: I'm not going to get rid. it's my gran's.
Me: I'm not asking you to...
etc etc etc
Finally I told him that if it was so special he had to clean it up from all the fluff and hair, fix the broken bit, and put it out somewhere!
Made the spare bed and dusted. Just gotta put a wash on and get the lamb out. Might have a glass of special wine but most likely a cup of tea now and some crochet.
Have a nice evening

Hi all
CCL- I'm so glad your OH has been seen by the GP and that you could go along. Will pop over to your diary shortly.
Determined -well done on getting your job application in. No mean feet with a small to supervise too. Good luck hope it leads to an interview
.
Ziggy- that sounds a nasty event. I'm surprised the other mum focused on the missing tie and not discussing why her son would behave that way. I'm sorry you feel low at the moment too. Hugs.
Carrie - Glad the decluttering is still happening. You'll have the most spotless place in town at this rate.
FVD -I agree. I've already had a few surprised people who seem to think girls ought to be in pink outfits to help them figure out the sex too.
LegoMum- DS was very tentative about her to begin with. It took him till a couple of days ago to ask if he could hold her. Now there's no stopping him. In fact we've been hovering cautiously to ensure she doesn't get man handled. Impressive regifting by the way. I totally agree and why not?
Foxgloves - I'm glad the mystery of brown pig has been solved
Ok so my small list for the day
1) Made min payment on the business CC.
2) walked all journies
3) Another very lovely outfit recieved from one of the school mums. Not pink
4) took bottle of water from home
5) OH made a use it up pasta dinner with spaghetti, a leftover hot dog sausage, some salami & chopped toms with parmasan.
6) saved some gift wrap that was in good condition.
7) Kept some cards for writing scrap paper
8) General tidy round routine followed
9) out of shower gel so using a nice handwash instead. Does the job
10) checked banking. Very low on funds....may need to do some juggling around.
Anyway that's me
have a good night all.

* Saved a few pounds: We were going to get last minute £12 tickets to the opera in the city. However, it was sold out so we're going to the local theatre tomorrow to see a comedian at £14 a shot. That's still a saving of £10 on petrol compared to Plan A. We'll probably take our own drinks with us.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0

Too late for me to post a list crazy busy day at work. Including getting moaned at by boss on phone
has no emotional intelligence (him not me) as then said don't think about it
Anyway am off on holiday for a week and it can't come at a better time. I've worked for same company for over 20 years and for about the on,y time ever I'm thinking of looking for something else. Maybe the other side of the holiday will make it look better. The security I have for my service is definitely about the only plus at the moment but definitely one worth having.
Big hugs to all those that feel down. Sending virtual hugs.
Ziggy big thank you to my parcel that arrived in the post from you, it's so very kind of you and much appreciated :T:T:D0 -
Bob, That's so lovely that your ds is enjoying the new arrival too. I didn't find out the flavour of either ds's so they spent a lot of the early days in cream or white, it makes me smile just thinking back

Ooooo just done a yougov survey and I've hit payout! So £50 on its way
It says payment within 4 weeks, anyone know how long it normally takes? 0
