Following Martin's advice I chose A&L for a high interest savings account. Rang up.
"I'd like to open a direct saver please"
"You can't do that by phone - online or at a branch"
"I already have a current account with you"
"Sorry"
Drove to nearest branch, parked, bought parking ticket, wasted an hour of my time.
"I'd like to open a direct saver please"
"I'll make you and appointment to see someone"
"I'd like to do it now not have an appointment"
"No-one's available right now"
"Not even you whose job it is to serve people or the other 2 staff in the office?"
"No and there's money laundering issues to sort out"
"I already have an account with you"
"There's still money laundering issues"
"All I want to do is give you £25,000"
"You need an appointment"
"Goodbye"
Went home, logged on to net, applied to open account. Didn't spot any money laundering questions....
Confirmation email arrived in 30 seconds. However can't deposit money for 5 working days...
