Well, if Mother ever has capacity these days, even if not for financial decisions, it's something she might be able to give some input into. If not explicitly, then discussion of favourites pieces of music, poetry etc.
Plus it gives her attorney peace of mind, knowing that that's one thing taken care of, and that money doesn't have to put set aside for the funeral at a later date.
Because the very worst time to be planning a funeral from scratch without having given it any thought in advance is just after someone's died.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Is the main reason for the gifting to reduce her money so LA had to pay? I'm confused, why do this? Had she given money away before? Did she want to?
I speak as someone who has POA for mum, who self funds, not all care homes give the same level of care, it's best to find what you can afford and be thankful she has provisions to pay for it.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

It means that the executor doesn't have to stump up a fair sum of money to claim from the estate at a later date and that at least some of the decisions about the funeral have been made.0
