I can hear a faint noise when I hold the car key in the start engine position in the key slot. No the engine doesn't turn over at all now before it did but it got gradually worse and worse.

I can get my dad to jump start the car but he won't be able to do it until after he gets home from work and I will get a ticket in that time. I think I will call a mobile mechanic.
  • RAC is much cheaper, even on the cheapest option 27.99 which does not cover a breakdown outside of your own home.

It does not matter if you know nothing about cars as when you buy a battery from RAC they fit it for you for free. Though a mobile mechanic will charge 20.00 at least for Labour, RAC charge 10.00 for non members:

RAC and AA charges for batteries are completely OTT

For my car they charge £140 fitted for a battery I can get delivered for less than £60.

I just called about 8 'local' mobile mechanics. Only one of them bothered to pick up and then told me he won't be able to come out for a few days..

    Called RAC they wanted £150.
Called Greenflag they wanted £108 but not membership.
Called AA they don't give advice.

I think my only option is to leave the car outside my house, get a ticket and then get someone to jump start the car.
  • Sounds like it's the cheapest option as you could pay half right away or you could appeal it. Is the RAC cost for just changing the battery or is it for a years membership. If it's membership it will be better value to pay that.

Yeah it's the 12 months membership but you only get the Roadside option which costs £27.99 online.

  • What about start rescue http://www.startrescue.co.uk/annual-breakdown-cover

£35.45 for your 2006 car roadside assistance, home start and recovery and avoid the expensive RAC and AA

I joined them this year fed up with paying over the odds

The car has to be moved by 11am. Won't be able to get a jump start until well after 5pm. Have to go to work soon anyway.

Just tried to start the car again. The key unlock won't work. Nothing comes on now when I turn on the ignition. It's completely dead :(
